Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys ive got a bit of a delima here. some buddies of mine are insistant on using giants and treemen in their 1k army lists. i was wondeing how you would equip a hero to deal with this threat at this points limit. Here is one idea ive been toying with.
vamp with walking death and dread knight powes and for equipment was looking at either blooddrinker or sword of kings. and obviously attach this guy to a unit of black knights (and will unfortunatly loost their skeletal steed movement) or small unit of blood knights.
DO NOT use blooddrinker OR sok. y? you are equiping a hero level character aka only 2 wounds, so blood drinker is no good. Also you will not do any damage to begin with as you need 5+ to wound either. And sok is obvious, it can NOT killing blow large targets!
There are 2 builds that can help against these 2.
One a lv2 mage that'll just send zombies to tie them up or get the lore of fire against the tree man.
Two a melee vampire with that 10 point lance (ofrcouse spend the other 40 points of magic on denfensive things) Get beguil for sure, as it alows you to rerow fail to wound since treeman/giant needs to pass a leadership of 5! byebye tree man if you get lucky.
I'd consider the first build since zombies are free for us, just concentrate on the things vc are good against. The rest of the army
Let's see here...
Balefire is good against the treeman. However, do you really want your vampire fighting these guys? If the treeman has annoyance of netlings, you simply own't beat him with any build. Giants are random, and with a good rool will be turning your guy into paste.
Consider tarpits, or big units to beat them with combat resolution. Wraiths can easily take down the giant. It might take a few charges to bring the treeman down.
Hope some of this helps.
I am heading off to the Peace Corps. It is bery likely I will not be back. Good luck to all of you endeavors.
I'd say the balefire spike is the best bet for the treeman. At 1000 pts, it won't be an ancient, so the annoyance isn't a concern. Take infinite hatred so you can reroll hits. You need those hits.
Str 7 flaming, the treeman can't save them. He has a 3+ armor save, which is lost against str 7. And his ward save is no good against magical attacks. So if you get three hits and two wounds, you've suddenly done four wounds to him. Next turn you get three hits and maybe one wound at str 5. All he gets is a 5+ armor save and no ward. In return, your general could get pasted.
Anything ethereal can ruin a giant's day. Cairn wraiths, spirit hosts, that'll deal with the giant quickly.
awesome and thanks for the help guys. and i must admit i do feel a little silly as i totaly forgot about the possibility of using a tarpit against either . however i do like the builds suggested by david. i will keep all this in mind next time we play and thanks again for the help.
