I have read that a cheap way to make zombies and skeletons is to buy 20mm bases and just use any leftover bits like the arms and heads. Would this work for ghouls? And if not is there any way to build cheap ghouls?
well the connotations of just the heads and arms of the zombies is that there comong up pout of the ground. If you think this fits ghouls , then do it. Personally though i dont think it would fit well
Ehhh... not really. You could always buy a box of ghouls and then buy a set of body and leg bits off of a warhammer bit dealer or ebay and you should have enough spare arm and head bits from the box to make 20 ghouls. I got about 90 ghouls pretty cheap that way at around $12 per 10 ghouls.
learn to ebay, a seller called wizardsgames is stocking the battalion box and splitting the box to bids to make some money. These are the same sprue as nib just no box! I have seen many go for $14-15 after s/h. Best thing is there's a new bid every 2-3 days, so you'll get them eventually at low prices.
You could always do what I do, it's not the cheapest but it works fine.
You take any humanoid Warhammer model .Convert it to a raggy, filthy version of itself, paint it gaunt and disheveled and put it in a ghoul unit.
I ofcourse subscribe to the "Ghouls are insane cannibalistic humans" as opposed to GW's "Murlocs!" idea. My ghouls are the insane remanants of my vampire's aristocratic court, driven to cannibalism and depravity by their now undying master.
