Welcome to Librarium Online!
Reading the VC spell list I have seen an interesting anomaly. In Curse of Years the rules say...
"...at the end of the next magic phase. At the end of the next magic phase they will suffer a wound on....."
As there is no mention of "friendly" would this imply that the curse fires off in BOTH players magic phases?
This would explain its relative cheapness to cast compared to last edition - easy to cast and easy to dispel.....
It does indeed go off in both players magic phases.
But it goes off at the end of the magic phase, this way your opponent has a chance of stopping it before it goes off
are you sure that rings true? because if so, that makes the list nastier than previously thought. such a spell, going off every magic phase, would devastate entire units in ONE full turn (both players)
I don't think your math is very good. Even if left unchecked 6's then 5's does not devastate a whole unit.
Plus thats 2 chances of dispelling, first at casting value then at 8. its not too difficult to get rid of. Don't forget its a remains in play so the caster can't cast any other spells.
Im certainly not saying it isn't a nice spell because it is but its not broken in any way. ahem Infernal Gateway...

tried dispelling with TK's?
And it's not maths, it's experience. i know statistically, a 20 strong unit should lose 2 to the first casting, then 6 to the next. that takes me to 12 strong, and i'd say that's pretty devastating....

and infernal gateway NEEDS to be cast on 3 dice, curse of years doesn't...
yea but infernal gateway you can never ever ever have a save against if it decides to go nom nom. If you know what i mean
yes. but the topic here is the curse of years. as a TK, you don't get much to dispel it, and if two vamps cast it, goodbye army.
Yes, this is about Curse of Years, not oh darn my TK suck. If you wish to start a thread about how Tomb Kings can stop Curse of Years you should post a thread over in that forum instead of complaining here.
Cure of years is a very good spell, and most people know it. You do have to roll it up, however, so you won't get it in every game. When you do get it people usually use a scroll or dice on it instead of wasting it on your one die IoN. Then add in the fact that you have to spend lots of dice every round just to keep you troops alive, and the 3 dice you need to be fairly certain of CoY becomes a large investment for your power dice. Don't forget that CoY takes a few rounds to really get going, which means your opponent gets a few rounds to dispel it. Also, it is fairly ineffective against small units like fast cav and fliers, unlike normal magic missiles. All in all, it is a fairly balanced spell when you take everything into account.
