Balefire(-1 to enemies casting)
Lodestone(additional wound when casting IoN)
Don't use a corpse cart
For every game I have played so far I have taken a corpse cart with the lodestone which gives an extra wound when casting IoN. I was wondering what do you prefer to use with your corpse cart?
i love balefire personal. Most of the time i have 3-4 casters. Yea the extra wound from lods helps, but Bale allows me to field less or even no dispel scrolls some games. I also find that the -1 penalty really hurts tough decisions in players, like a 4+ spell becomes 5, and hard 8+ becomes 9. Minor wizards have a really hard time with Bale

Good Luck and have fun!

Every bit helps when trying to pump up units. I take the +1 IoN almost exclusively.
Whenever I take corpse carts, it's usually in pairs - and both with Balefire. Two carts have a pretty good spread across the table, so an enemy wizard is almost always in range of at least one (if not both for the cumulative -2 to cast). I've found it to be far more successful for me than the Lodestone, all things considered.
I think that a Balefire is gonna kick ass. +1 to your summoning won't help too much, it's only 1 model, whereas the Balefire minuses 1 from his casting, which makes those 1 dice to cast spells 2 dice to cast. Also if you combine 1 or 2 of them with a Staff of Sorcery then you can dispel nearly everything.
I can see both being very usefully, especially bale, especially when used as a pair, although I use lodestone more often. I tend to run a very elite army, with 2 units of grave guard, there fairly tough to kill with a 4+ save and a toughness 4, and my main caster gets +1 to cast with the skull staff, so he is raising them on a 3+ pretty much. When you combine all that and a lodestone my grave guard tend to get to combat in an almost untouched condition. elite easy to raise troops, I'd buy that for a dollar.
Ya but Lodestone is ultra effective when casting on a unit of Black Knights...nothing like getting 2 back instead of 1. Also Cairn Wraiths and Banshees...
Balefire is extremely nice though, plus it's effects are cumulative unlike Lodestone...
This is a very situational question, I think against armies with decent magic the Balefire is very strong especially if you can hit their casters with a -2 to rolls.
I respectfully abstain from this vote.
I think the Balefire wins hands down. With the amount of magic in the game nowadays it is invaluable for example against other VC a balefire or 2 can cripple 1 dice casting. Since there are so many nice items for the Vampires in the army a balefire can reduce the need of dispel scrolls. I don't see that extra guy you'll get will not normally make a difference compared to working towards stopping enemy magic which can have a big impact on games.
BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
ran 5 with balefire in 3k against kairos lol..... the dumb bird got nothing off!
Thanks for the help. It seems like balefire is more useful when you have two or three of them. Right now I only have one corpse cart so maybe I should get another one and then try balefire out.
