Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just curious. Haven't used them yet in 7th edition.
Wasn't a big fan of them in the last edition, tho I know many things have changed about them.
In their skirmisher state, about 8-12 Ghouls was a good number for a unit. But now that they are ranked up, is that still a decent amount? Or do I need to possibly look at getting some more Ghouls to run a unit of 20?
Warhammer Fantasy: Vampire Counts | Wood Elves | Chaos
depends on the rest of your army and what type of army you play (magic vs combat)
Average number is 15 to start. But then you plan on building them up with summon ghouls.
They get incredibly nasty once you build them up beyond 20. Helm of commandment and corpse cart make them the best infantry inthe game if you ask me.
I think the best is to start with about 15, but in 2 rows of 7, for maximum attacks with poison. You only start with one rank, but if you can really beef it up, that unit will own all!!! just from kills!!!!
I normally run just ghouls as my core (raising zombies, and just not bothering anymore with skeletons)
If I'm not intending to raise alot I go three units, always six wide - 2 units of 18 and one unit of 22-23 (depending on if a mounted character is included or not)
this size doesn't have to be built up before combat much at all, and can last a while before needing reinforcements usually.
If I'm playing a more raisy list and counting on building the first turn, then I go 12 (still six wide) as the rank won't be needed first turn. and one bigger block which is less susceptable to shooting...
basically unless someone dedicates a heavy shooting list (ie: WE) to taking out your blocks, they'll have a hard time taking out a unit of T4 ghouls with regular shooting.
(plus there's higher value targets on the board so usually gives you a chance to raise a bit)
I'm with JackShrapnel on this one (awesome screenname by the way).
I want to make the switch from skeletons in a rez heavy list, to Ghouls. They're tougher and they do more damage in combat, so why not take them? For the same points as skeletons, they're a steal. I'd go for it, except that my army is already so pretty and so themed, and I already blew all my cash on the mounds of skeleton models that i still have to paint. ugh.
[insert particularly dirty 'bone' joke here]
