I managed to get some black numenorean warriors for cheap and thought with the right paint job they could be used as dismounted blood knights. I don't know how to cost them though, I was thinking the same stats as mounted but with no lance of course, and maybe no frenzy? Anyway, how much? Anything to compare them to?
They should have frenzy, they are Blood Knights after all! But costs-wise, I would make them maybe 30 points each. They don't have teh armour save or mobility of the mounted versions, nor the supporting attacks of the steeds or the strength enhancement from the lance...
I would give them heavy armour, shield and a rule similar "to armed to da teef" for Black Orcs - i.e. they have two hand weapons and Great weapons and will use the weapon appropriate for the circumstances
On foot they would be similair to Chaos Chosen, so should have their points similair as well. Notable differences that would need to be taken into acount are; frenzy, less armour and undead.
Add to this the fact that in a Chaos army, the step change from Core choice Warrior si snot massive to the Special choice Chosen. However, the step change from Core and Special infantry to the Vampire-unit that is Blood Knights is massive. What I am saying is that Chosen add far less to a WoC army than Blood Knights on foot would add to a Vampire Counts army....
I agree that the rationale should be there, but I would overcost by maybe as much as 20% just because there are NO equivalent infantry units in a VC army. I would actually look at the ratio of points between GreatSwords and Knightly Orders to get a good feel for the differential, as Greatswords are a real step-change vs the other Empire standard block infantry, and are essentially foot knights..
That's a great idea! Greatswords are 0.4348 the cost a Knightly Order, however if you take out the Greatswords Stubborn it might be more like 0.3913?
From these ratios going from mounted to foot, I would suggest foot Blood Knights be 22 points (taking into consideration stubborn) or maybe 24 points with a rule to replace stubborn (armed to da teef?).
As a curtesy for you opponent I would jack up the price by maybe 10 percent again, given you are using a unit that isn't in the army book. So 24 points base, 26-27 with 'armed to da teef'?
EDIT: Thought of another two units that could be used to scale mounted against non mounted; Swordmasters and Dragon Princes. That would suggest a halving the points when dismounting cavalry, so 27-28 for Blood Knights. Although Swordmasters have WS6 vs Dragon Princes WS5, suggesting the previous costing using Greatswords/Knights are accurate.

yeah, I was thinking I would overcost them a bit seeing as they'll be a rare choice and I don't really have enough for a bigger sized infantry block, and I looked at their stats in the book and they only have M4 so I thought I might bump that up to 5 seeing as they are vampires and they 'supernatural' fast but not a hero level.
