Going to a "no restrictions" tourney this weekend, but knowing the people who are comming, there will be no cheesing
but i would like to make a step upp the ladder from my usual 5-8`th spot.
My army is VC and usualy consist of the normal powerhouse lord with 3 heroes with magic/fighting prow to back him upp.
Using a full Grave guard unit with command and bsb as a bunker/pointsaver unit and a unit of 4wraith`s and a banshee as the killing unit.
I was thinking of trying a new thing since my grave guard never ever moves fast enough to get any real work done.
So i am pondering trying out dropping the GG and wraiht/banshe for 8 Blood knight, full command, balefire lance, ward save banner(from shooting) and adding the bsb with regen banner and lord to the unit, while shielding it with wolves and spirit hosts untill i need it.
this way i can bunker upp my points to play a "point denial" game if needed and/or have a hard hitting fast unit that can take a beating.
any thought`s ?
Go for a magical casting general with that army build...level 3 + forbidden lore and sceptre de-noirot, nightshroud, helm, biting blade (just in case he does get into combat with a nasty) and maybe dread knight to get the heavy armour.
Then the hero vampires can concentrate on short-ranged casting and fighting, as well as supporting units to make sure they march.
I'd keep the GG, they are a massively powerful unit - Wight King with DK banner will be a great asset. Support with blocks of skellies, and spirit hosts are another good choice, but only for support, not as primary combat units.
I'd also factor in a unit of Black Knights, with perhaps the bannerof the barrows or the standard of Strigos.

I would swap them for the blood knights personnaly.....I run a unit of 4 blood knights, vamp with the regen banner, the hatred banner and a vamp with blood drinker....., no champion, the points arent worth one more attack, this unit normally stands up to everything except spirit of the forge...with 8 blood knights.....and the 2 vamps....this unit would be unstoppable, just get a cheap screen and you are ready ......
I personnaly dont use GG because i hate the fact they have only one attack....since i bought my blood knights i havent used anything else.....they are excellent, allthough now im trying out a wraith army.....but in my opinion, drop the GG and take the Blood knights......
Good luck, and may the dice gods smile upon you and smite your foes.
You'd be better off using the Dread Lance/Red Fury Lord in a unit of 9-10 Black Knights and then taking a separate unit of 4-5 BloodKnights. That gives you two hard hitting hammer units and makes your opponent have to worry about two fast, choppy units. They can support each other.
I love my GG, but I haven't been using them lately because they're relatively slow and people go out of their way to avoid them. You can't really run from cavalry.
