God, I haven't posted anything on here for AGES... shocking - new resolve: get back into such things...
Anyway, I'd like some help on beating Dark Elves and Warriors of Chaos please... separately thank God! Although i think they're planning to gang up on me sometime... Eep!
Right so, Dark Elves i'm starting to do okay against, we've built up enough models to play 2000pt games which means i'm holding my own, but at the same time if my dice rolling suffers a bad day then i'd like something to fall back on; i've conceded enough defeats to those vampire wannabies!
so here's what i have so far:
1 Corpse Cart
10 Grave Guard
5 "Blood Knights"
The rest of my army varies as I substitute models for things, obviously I have zombies to raise and I try to get some ghosties into the game with the soul stealing spell, I tend to play one Vampire Lord (Mannfred lately) and two heroes which sometimes have the ethereal power.
So my question is: what should I get next? should I get more core troops or go for it and buy a Vargulf or some wraiths or something? and what spells would you suggest?
My friend varies her list every game, lately she's started using that silly bint who rides a Manticore and have about a million strength 10 attacks... can't remember her name but i DO NOT LIKE HER! with her obviously the Witch Elves have come into play but i often use my wolves to lead them away... erm, what else...? Black Guard are often played... apart from that it could be anything...
So any help on kicking some elvish ass would be appreciated
My other friend plays Warriors, I haven't really played against her yet, played a small battle with us both having dogs/wolves, knights and warriors and we were pretty well matched but that's probably mostly because I've played longer than her so when she catches me up I'm fearing losses...
Question: are Chaos Knights any better than Blood Knights? I've convinced myself they are but it might be a case of "the grass being greener" they are a special choice which seems unfair... And I know their core troops are kick ass...
Oh, she's got some Marauder Horsemen recently which i haven't played against, how're these and what should i match them with? As if there's a undead core unit to match to them... pah!
Um... She uses the Lore of Nurgle, has a Scyla model that'll make an appearance soon and is looking at using the stupidly powerful lords of doom...
So what do we do against Warriors? I know there are threads around on this topic but since it's my own thread I thought I'd hijack it :p and I'd like specific Nurgle-busting tips if possible.
God, lots of questions and requests here! Sorry, this is what happens when I disappear for ages...
Thanks for any help
[re: Blood Knights] Oooh, a pony!! :D ... Oh! It's an EVIL pony!!!"
I would definitely build your core up. Try to focus on one or the other - skeletons or ghouls. Don't bother making your vampires ethereal, unless you're actually tacking your army that way. They need to be in those core units and units of Grave Guard for support. Increase the size of your units. Also, you probably want a unit of Black Knights over Blood Knights until you have a larger army.
Mannfred is a nasty lord to choose, and certainly effective. You should focus on wearing the Dark Elves down. They have low toughness and crap for armor, so the larger your unit the better. If they stay in combat too long they'll eventually lose. I believe their LD is only 8, right? If so, just try and boost your static CR and make them run. If you need to kill them, get them in combat with your Guard or a Varghulf. Charging wolves should hurt the non-heavy infantry, especially if backed up with a Helm of Commandment or a Corpse Cart. Dark Elves are soft targets, just hit them hard! Keep your unit strength up and dispel what you can and you should be ok.
WoC suck. You need to focus less on actually attacking them and more on trying to survive to win. Blood Knights are better than Chaos Knights, but the frenzy rule makes that a bit more interesting. Blood Knights have to accept challenges, and the Kastellan must always issue - but you can raise them back if they die. They also come strength 5 base with lances - Chaos don't get lances (last I checked) You have to weigh those against each other.
Nurgle has high toughness/wounds, right? If he has multiwound creatures, you could throw in Konrad or a few vampires with Red Fury and go to town. Just remember that hero level vampires won't be able to raise too many skeletons if they spend all their points on Red Fury.
And by suck I mean they hurt.
Yes, you should really build up core first Over there, you got the summoning possibilities.
Taking out Dark Elves: Just do as Draconia were writing - hit hard. One thing to remember is that they got Assassins. These damned* characters does not count as a Lord or Hero choice and they have I10 and ASF if I'm not totally wrong Actually, your Vampire Lord will have some problems if he got targeted by a hidden Assassin with the right poison/improvements. I would strongly suggest to give your Lord the Carstein Ring, for he will risk dying everytime he charges a unit. the wolves the same, aim for the right unit or they will be dead-dead.
* I beg for mercy for that...
