When you make up an army list what tends to be the percentage of points that goes into your heroes and lords? I started to write a 2250 list of what I'd like in my first VC army. I've been a Beasts of Chaos and an O&G player so when I saw that I would be spending about 900 points on 4 guys I thought I'd ask some learned people.
That's about right. You could probably max them out even more, I think you should have the points somewhere. They usually end up taking about between 1/2 and 1/3 of the army. I would shy away from 1/2, but Vampires are what hold your army together. No sense in shortchanging yourself. Remember, you can always just make more troops
This varies from player to player and army to army...some armies just don't need to rely as much on their heroes cause their troops can do a lot of their work. Our troops choices are pretty low end so spending 1/3 to1/2 on characters is not unreasonable for a VC player. We rely on magic, and have to treat one of our charcters (general) with kid gloves as to ensure his survival so it is not unreasonable to have 1000 - 1125 pts in heroes in a 2250. Actually I think you would need at least 1/3 (750+ pts) to even be viable in the magic phase at 2250.
Ya in my opinion for competetive play, it depends on the army you are playing. Slann lists, Vc lists usually are gonna have alot of points into there character choices because that is what they are relying apon to win the game for them. After playing this way for a few years with VC I had to make an empire army to change it up for me at least.
Vampire Counts-4000 Points
Black Templars-2000 Points
Different players got different play-styles The choice of characters can differ from one Tactician to another.
Try to maximize characters in most cases when concerning Undead You could choose cheaper ones like Necromancers if you would like more troops to start with... Make sure the summoning goes well, and the Character points have been well spent

If you feel like it, you could give us the build of your heroes/lord too.
50%, give or take a few points is usually where I'm at. The way I look at it, your Vampires are what do most of your damage and they support the rest of your Army. If you make them weak, or worse, particularly vulnerable (no armor, for instance) you're setting yourself up for failure.

I just posted the army list in the, you guessed it, VC army list section. Feel free to take a look and give some input.
Here's the link to the army list for the super lazy :-) http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ml#post1493574 (2250, 1st VC list)
