This is an idea I just had for character hunting, and it requires a sacrificial vampire. It'll probably only work once.
Avatar of Death
Black Axe of Krell
Hide him in a skeleton unit like an assassin and have him charge an important character. Challenge, or attack a solo one. The axe is almost as good as a Frostblade but you don't have to use a lord in order to do it! Plus, if they survive, they still have to deal with the axe eating away at them. I could see this doing some serious damage to a Dragon or Griffin, too - strength 7 negates a 3+ armor save, and it does d3 wounds.
Vampires are not character hunters. Choice is obvious. Wight king with sword of kings and blood gem in black knight unit, with banner of strigoi. Posibillity expand combo with helm of command, van hels etc.
Your tactics don´t work. Skelies are slow, your alone vampire charge unit with character. Your opponents unit champion accept chalenge and bye bye vamp.
Am i seriously the only one who notices the finer points.
It says under the Black Axe of Krell rules that only Wight Kings may take the weapon
Uh, sorry, missed that while I was reading in haste. XD I might have to stick to the Frostblade to kill off those soloing Dragons.
Sorry if you think you're the only one who reads, by the way. Sounds like you've got quite a burden!
Don't take it to heart. Mirage has been raggin on people in these forums all week. Someone hid a little troll in his cereal.
Not all week, just the last few days.
And people should really read the book before they post lists. And your just upset i proved your list wasnt balanced.
Mostly im just sick of people posting things that are wrong when theres something that sticks right out to say theyre wrong
Chillax, broseph. I entered this in at work without having the book in front of me. I do read, I just thought it was really cool (up until the whole Wight Lord only snippet). Oh well.
i am chill and was chill.
And if you were at work shouldnt you be working?
Lunch break! Best part of the day.
as poitned out, vampires don't character hunt that well... sure there's the 'dreadlace + red fury' combo, but again, you'll almost never over come a fully ranked unit since they'll have a starting SCR5 at worst!
instead, try and build a 'unit cracking' vampire to support something like a charging vargulf/black knights...
my own vamp lord:
vampire lord w/hellsteed, avatar (shield), infinite hatred, red fury. balefire spike, wristbands, hand of dust.
so this guy charges alongside a vargulf normally and can hopefully take off a rank through the hand of dust... combines, this pair typically causes 6-7 casulties even with sub-par rolling and thus get's over the enemies SCR5 + musician tie-breaker...
another option is to include a lord w/dreadlance + red fury who can easily kill 6-8 enemies or else the cheaper balefire spike + red fury + infinte hatred.
or else perahps have a caster lord hit a red fury vampire on foot with the bear's anger spell for 6 S7 attacks + red fury!
overall though, leave the character hunting to wight lords w/sword of kings + nightshroud/gem of blood and let the vampires go butcher the hapless chaf which is what they're best at!
