Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering how many corpse carts people tend to field. My main opponents are High Elves and Lizardmen, and a GW staffer showed me an intensely nasty build for a Lizardman Slann (5 powerstones, null miscasts) that made me feel like loading up on Balefire was a pretty good decision.
Right now I was considering 2 CCs with Balefire, and perhaps a variable (either Balefire or Lodestone) third one. I know the ASF won't help me against the Elves (and I think Lizardmen are primarily Initiative 2) but horking around with their casting is an extremely attractive option. And if I can get them to waste some dispel dice, so much the better - especially against Lizardmen, since I would be shooting a Forbidden Lore + Pit of Shades at his scarier units.
What do you think?
My regular opponent is also HE, and I tend to use two CCs with Balefire. If you use any more, it will be only a waste of points that you could have spent on better things
Put your Vampires in Units surrounding the CCs and that HE Player will have to dispel the ASF or suffer from a Vampire hitting them first - something that a HE Player would take into consideration wether he would dispel it or not hehe
At 2000points I find 2 is enough. You should be able to get most of your units in the bound spell range and you can either get a nice -2 to enemy casting or one of each upgrade depending on your preference.
2000AD's answer to all "How do VC deal with ..." questions: Forbidden Lore + 2 Power Stones.
Further answers will require more vodka.
Theyre average at best, for 100 points i find a -1 to cast and a bound that doesnt matter for a long time rather useless. I know many people will disagree but that is my opinion.
I find that ive got the spells and dice to do what it can do and more in 1 magic phase thus for me counting it out for 1 reason already, and -1 to cast isnt really that great as most spells against vamps can just be let through and if they are actually that important then just dispel them as most VC armies have about 5-6 dispel dice with at least a scroll.
Nagash would you mind telling me why you take 2 i know that the always strike first can be valuable but the only things that can attack are vampires and lords, yea they might kill 3-4 spearmen (or whatever your attacking) per round if theyre lucky but that hardly makes enough difference to put 200 points into them, when you can take a coach that almost autowins against high elve blocks
I take 2 or none at all and always with Balefire. Having 2 lets you cover more of your army or focus on 1 unit if you need to push the Miasma through.
2 Balefires is a pretty strong magic deterrent as not only is it harder for them to cast but easier for you to dispel. Most of my VC lists are not raise heavy meaning if my magic can focus on offensive spells instead raising killed models all the better.
If you really want your Miasma's to be effective load your army up with some more bound items like Book of Arkhan and Rod of Flaming Death so the enemies choices are not easy on what to dispel.
Actually, I only take 1 cart in 2000pt games, if that. And I use it as a free ASF machine, or raise booster. Typically, I don't see even that much sense in taking one, and leave it at home.
I have to say though, that I run a very magically inclined army. I have 7DD with a +1 to dispell across the army.
Another reason to have 2 Balefires is help protect any spirit hosts or cairn wraiths. Even the weakest MM is a bane to them and with -2 to their casting it makes it much easier to protect them.
ehh waste of points, because not everyone will have magic heavy, for instance almost all my lists (almost) have about 7-9 dice but also have very strong combat or shooting phases
