Welcome to Librarium Online!
every vampire out there wants there skeletons to win combat, well i have finally found a way to do that, i found that if you take a bsb, with infinite hatred and walking death, the flayed hauberk and a gem of blood, and stick him in a 20+ skeleton unit armed with hand weapon and shield and a warbanner, you have 3 ranks, hopefully numbers banner warbanner bsb and walking death added to your combat res so even if you don't kill anything you have a +8 combat res. if you really want that unit to take a charge and win then give a casting lord the helm of commandment and watch the ws 7 skeletons take a charge from warriors of chaos and not only survive but have a decent chance of winning. hopefully this helps somebody that took me quite a few games to figure that out.
or, a better version;
vamp w/walking death + dread knight. BSB w/warbanner
30+ skellies w/banner of the endless nightmare. (start the skellies at around 18-20, then use a support vampire w/LotD to spam invocation to bring the numbers up even higher!)
so, beat my SCR9!!!
+1 unit banner
and yes, it can keep going simply by adding in say another vampire w/walking death... still, keep in mind, you have to get into combat to do anything! if your opponent is keen-eyed, they'll catch onto that unit as it's been a fairly common trick since we got our new book...
and everyone will start to avoid the unit once they know just what it can do!!!
mind you, to really ensure you win, try to hit that unit with a casting of vanhel's once they get into combat. (hint: use a corpse cart or two first plus any other bound items to drain their dispel pool/scrolls before casting danse macabre!)
To the OP
If you take the BSB, your character can't have any magic items. You'd probably want to spend the infinite hatred points on Avatar of Death instead.

WiP TK Army!
i had tried that combo and was bouncing back and forth but the combat ability and survivability of option a won out over the extra point CR. the skeleton champion is good to soak up the first challange but on the opponents turn if you charged then your bsb has to take it or refuse and if yours refuses he takes the bsb, WD, AND the warbanner with him.
i have tried it out a couple of different ways and i have found that the way i ran it worked best for me. thanks for the advice though
I normally just have a Vampire with Dark Acolyte and Avatar of Death in the unit. If I need to maybe the Tomb Sword. Because the army doesn't break my skeles ultimate win combat through ressurrection and the vampire totaling up the kills before the opponent strikes.
I tend towards the same build as set forth by 626, but with a minor adjustment.
Skeletons (boostable size) w/ Warbanner
Vampire w/ Tomb Blade, Night Shroud, Walking Death, Lord of the Dead
1 walking death
The unit is also somewhat self-sufficient with the Lord of the Dead and Tomb Blade.
I just don't want to have to use a BSB, since I need someone to cart around 'The Banner of The Hoff' in my GG regiment of doom.
I find that Tomb Blade is not very useful in a unit of skeletons that has been made larger If your running a Lord of the Dead list.
If you start your unit at 19 or 24 and don't plan on making the unit bigger its quite handy.
The same goes for blood drinker. I like running Blood Drinker on a Lord with Red Fury in a unit of 24 Ghouls
I think the 2 weapons were made for the more martial vampires and less for the summoning ones.
