Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm hoping to get some advice here. I'm planning on getting my significant other interested in Warhammer as she's willing to give it a shot. She likes the idea of VC's with their all around awesome looks and well..lets face it..their Vamps. I'm not sure on which type of army she's more willing to lean towards, a caster or melee type... I'm guessing magic intense but *shrug*. So I lay myself before the vets here... what are some of our options for a sexy looking VC army that's still effective.
Haha sorry for the vague post. I was in a hurry at work Lets get into more detail. I have been looking at the codex and I'm curious to know on your opinions between a few things.
One: The difference between the vampire powers. Which do you think is stronger then the other and can they all be used effectively? or are some subpar and not worth taking. I've always been interested in the old Lahmian (I think thats how you spell it) style vamps and there power of charm. But with the new vampire powers I'm not sure how effective those powers are. Also.. are the caster powers and the melee powers as effective as they look?
What are your opinions on Wight armies?
What do you think of Cairn Wraiths?
What do you think of Blood Knights and what numbers are they effective in? Which banner's work best with these?
How are ethereal units holding up these days and what are your opinions on them? (From Spirit Hosts to Banshee's etc.)
Are the rare choices all worth taking? (Coming from a TK player and well.. our Bone Giant is pretty useless lol )
Is the Black Coach as awesome as ever?
Thanks for all the help in advance!
I don't make a habit of answering these because of my lack of gaming experience, but I've been on these boards for some time and picked up hints from others, which I can pass on... so here goes nothing...
Yes. If you go melee heavy your vampire is going to rip through most core and special units. The only thing with casters is to watch out when looking at your lore. You don't want to get caught up in the big spells when you're about to lose skeletons. I personally use necromancy spells 99% of the time and very rarely the odd powerful spell. Most importantly when it comes to magic, Vanhel's Danse is your best friend. It will get your undead units into clost combat faster. You're going to need this given you will have no ranged attacks.are the caster powers and the melee powers as effective as they look?Wights are very good back bones to your army but you still need your numbers for vamps. It's always good to have particularily pricey but fragile vampires in something tough like grave guard. As well, if you're looking for flanking units that will rip through the side of most enemies, black knights are great especially for their ethereal movement. I also think cairn wraiths are a good choice but always make sure you only pit them against something that you know they have a good chance of winning against. They can do a lot of damage and they usually can't be hit back, but they can get ripped from combat res if you're not careful. What are your opinions on Wight armies?
What do you think of Cairn Wraiths?Blood Knights are the hammer of any vamp army. I would say they are probably best in units of 5 for max attacks. The only problem with them is that they usually have a big target painted on their heads. Because of this i would recommend taking the Flag of Blood Keep to protect them from ranged attacks. Lastly, if your really worried about combat res, make a vampire BSB with the banner of the dead legion join them so they won't get outnumbered. Or if you want really pricey, drakenhof banner. Just don't let them die (which will be tough to do with a 2+ armour save, 4+ ward save from all ranged attacks, and a regen save). What do you think of Blood Knights and what numbers are they effective in? Which banner's work best with these?Cairn Wraiths, as I said above, are great. Spirit hosts are kinda iffy but they are really good for tying up problem units. Recently I threw a unit of spirit hosts at my opponents dragon princes and the princes were pretty much useless the whole game. Banshees are great against units with low leadership but other than that, weaker than wraiths. I always take one but she sometimes does nothing for most of the battle against armies like dwarves. How are ethereal units holding up these days and what are your opinions on them? (From Spirit Hosts to Banshee's etc.)Blood Knights are great in big armies but I wouldn't really take them in a 2000 point game. Too pricey. A varguhlf is great for taking out warmachines since he is fast, strong, tough, and not to mention causes terror. A warmachine crew will most likely be far away from the general and so have lower leadership, as well as being very close to the table edge when they flee. Not to mention how weak most of them are. Personally I have yet to use a black coach but I hear theyre a lot of fun.Are the rare choices all worth taking?
