Welcome to Librarium Online!
I know there have been a few of these out there but I'm new to VC's and am hoping for some opinions on my build. The premise behind it is this: have a Vampire with the Lore of Beasts (could also make this one the BS and opt to take The Bear's Anger. Cast this on the Vampire Lord as well as any other character without weapons. This gives the VL a S7 T6 and A7. With Red Fury thats's a fairly easy potential to get 14 attacks.
The Vamp Lord himself is as follows: (Take note that this is also my first Vamp Lord build )
Vampire Lord: Powers: Red Fury
Magic Items: Flayed Hauberk
Talisman of Lycni
Wristbands of Black Gold
Book of Arkhan
Stick him in a unit of Black Knights with the Banner of Hellfire? (Still not sure on Banner combo's, especially if you put the BSB in this unit as well)
Oh I forgot to ask... if a Vampire has the Talisman of Lycni can he join a unit of Cavalry? Since he can keep up and all.
Any character can join any unit thats not flyers or a monster. however the unit must move at its slowest speed. the talisman just means that he now has to move at the speed of the unit, which is 8 (unless barded)
i personally find terror a bit redundant. theres lots of immune to psych out there these days, and he already has fear. but i guess thats a personal preference.
if he's in a unit of black knights then why do you need the wristbands? unless he's gonna be popping out alone then theyre not really needed.
im assuning he's your fighty vampire? how many characters do you have with lore of beasts? because one casting of bears anger may well be easily dispelled, as it will make the character horrible.
unless you have at least 2 of them, id look at the bears anger as a bonus, not a crutch.
my 2 pence
if you really want to try out the bear's anger though, try this for a surprisingly fighty caster lord: master of the black arts + forbidden lore + LotD + Lv3 upgrade/ accursed armour + crown of damnation + book of arkhan.
support him/her with a vampire wearing the helm of commandment for WS6 and now you've got a S7/T7/A7 monster! (or as i call her, the 'better star dragon'!)
hope this helps,
The kind of item build youve given your character supports Support more than it does for combat.
I use Wristbands, Book, sometimes talisman of the Lycni, and Accursed Armour for my character and i make him a support character than can be anywhere (I usually give him Flying Horror)
What you will quickly learn is that its not wise to put all of your eggs into one basket, in this case your using the most unreliable basket being Magic.
Firstly Magic can be dispelled. So when they see that you going to cast bears anger on to an already powerful character theyre going to be like, hmmm scroll, or if they wish to take the risk then theyll dice it (I would scroll it because my dice can be up and down, and its gamebreaking)
You can fail to cast, Even if your throwing 2 or 3 dice at it you can still fail, or even get a miscast, which can easily make things go pear shaped.
His save sucks. Now for a combat character his save is very low, you'll find that once he gets into combat, your opponent will almost certainly challenge (if they can) and deny you winning combat because most enemies that would allow a charge like that would be block units, also potentially putting you up for combat rez death depending on how you and your opponent roll.
Anyways that my opinion on it, Theres no point in supernatural horror on the character as like has been said most armies dont even need to worry about it anymore, and if hes within 6 of the enemy then most enemies will be ready to kill him by then
So my opponent is unable to dispel the buff until his turn is that correct? Not a bad idea to waste his DD/ scrolls. I mean... a Vamp Count is going to be brutal enough without the buff... but with it he's a monster... Granted I'm probably going to try and switch him to a Lord that's stuck in a unit of Tomb Guard but with the same idea. Now I'm looking at the items and I don't see many items that would help him in this situation. Would taking one or two of the bound spell items work well? (with a caster/ Bear's Anger army build)
