So where do you all set up your vamps? (as in which units do you prefer to stick them in) Do you tend to stick most of them in the same unit? Or have them in seperate units? And which units do you prefer to have which build of Vamps?
Also which do you like to stick with the Vamp Lord?
I usually put my vampires in different units, to spread out their magic a bit. I mostly put them in my units of skeletons or grave guard, but i try to keep magic heavy vamps out of combat, so behind my lines.
"I have seen you humans, trying to forge an Empire in the name of a corpse"
At 2000-2500 points I normally run 2 magic heavy vamps and 2 fighty. One magic heavy will probably have the helm so be running tight behind my front line alongsde the other magic heavy (both have some armour so can jump into units if needs be). I run one fighty in GG and one in Black Knights or Blood Knights. If i'm not running GG or BK then the fighty vamp jumps about a bit or becomes a nec on a cart.
i usually run my bsb as a combat/caster mix and put him in skeletons, and then i put another caster type vamp in a different unit of skeletons and then my last caster type and my lord go into a designated bunker unit of skeletons.
Vampire Lord in Grave Gaurds, and the others in different units. In my experience Vampires are the major damage dealers in undead and I find they tip the scales of combat, the rest of the units they're with adds combat res and fear. This also gives a nice even spread of magic ranges and leaves no obvious weak points for your opponent to concentrate on.
Now is it worth sticking the BSB vamp in with the Lord? or in a seperate unit?
I try to keep my General and my BSB apart. Typically because I run a casting-heavy Lord who doesn't carry much in the way of close combat gear, but also because I want to have as many casting bubbles and marching bubbles spread through the army as possible.
I typically put my Lord in a small skeleton regiment, then put my BSB with my GG, and put 2 more vampires into other core regiments. Recently though I've experimented with a more balanced lord placed into a regiment of 9 Black Knights, and two other vampires going into regiments of Blood Knights. This can be risky though, because if they bait your Blood Knights, you character goes running off with them.
