Welcome to Librarium Online!
Are Corpse Carts useless now in the 8th Edition??
I don't see a lot of people talk about them or use them in lists anymore, would it be a waste of money to buy corpse carts?
I saw them going for pretty cheap on Ebay, and now I can't decide whether to buy them or not.
They are now officially dead. (I couldn't resist!)
They can no longer join units when used as mounts, so it's a tough sell. But then again, it's a 75 point model. You can't expect too much out of it. It is fairly resilient to shooting, so it has a good chance to stick around even with true line of sight rules. You can even take a bite out of squishy units with it, it has 2d6 attacks after all. WHAT NOW SKINKEHS!
3d6 if you count thunderstomp 0.0
For me though its mostly the fact that i now have to waste dice on bound spells that i dont take it anymore, that and ASF took a hit with the step up rule.
I will never waste 100 pts for a corpse Cart, they are so dead.
Not to mention the Errta rule, If Nec is mounted on Corpse cart it counts towards hero limit, yea 100 points buys me a vamp who can fight

8th Ed WOOT
WOW that really is crap....
but do any of you think they'll bring it back with new rules in the vampire book re-write? because right now on Ebay I can get 2 of them for $18 that's like 13 pounds I think.
Because if they're so dead right now what do you guys think the chances of GW fixing them up for the VC armybook rewrite?
That and they are on ebay for that much ALL the time.
I'm gonna have to disagree that the Corpse Cart is useless, although I do agree with many of the issues raised so far.
So I propose this use for a Corpse Cart,
It is a fairly sturdy unit (regeneration and T 4) with a decent number of attacks, albeit random (3d6) and a very small frontage...
That being said, you can charge units from the front with the cart and then counter charge in the flank with a different, rank negating unit. Problems with this is of course WS 2. But, with augmentation spells this can be remedied. - I also feel it could be a decent flanking unit, although not rank negating.
Personally, considering augmentation spells, the Corpse Cart is by far a more efficient tarpit unit then a similarly costed group of 20 zombies, simply because of its frontage. and even enemy characters will have trouble hitting it if you augment to WS 10. Some will say, "why would I waste and Augment on the Cart rather than placing it on a good unit" my answer to that would be "how important is it for you to hold up an enemy so you can set up the later killing blow?"
So is it worthless, I don't think so, but its uses are very different to the uses it saw in 7th. I still plan on using them. In fact, I'm now thinking of an army list with 3 carts, all with Balefire...imagine larger games, maybe 5 or 6 with Balefire....hmmmmmmmmmm.
Buffing it makes it OK, buffing anything else makes them look better. I try to leave out buffs (that are related to magic, not from special rules or items) from a discussion mainly because giving anything WS 10 makes it look good. However, it's not something you can guarantee and it requires you to invest alot of potential into a unit that will still struggle to keep up.
It's not completely useless, but it's bound ability competes with too much for magical efficieny.
But nothing stops you from playing the models you want to play.
I'll probably give them a go, 1 power dice to get ASF is going to be a big help given VCs rubbish initiative. Balefire is allways good too.
