Ok so I have only played 3 games of 8th with my Vamps but I've been watching vamps closely at tournaments.
I'm shocked at how dangerous is it casting with only two dice the whole game, I've played vampires at tournaments and early on they've rolled a double 6 and lost magic levels, its crazy. Last 3 games I've rolled 4 miscasts with my vampire lord, half of them in turn 1!
miscasts really are more deadly now. I was playing a game a while back and had my vamp lord miscast on 3 dice. Figured for sure I'd be fine on 3 dice. I guess not. I did get off Summon Undead Horde (for a whopping 5 wounds regained across the battlefeild. Go dice!.... .......) Then I rolled for the miscast and lost 3 magic levels. It was a 3,000 point game, so I had a magic and a combat lord. My magic lord, was now a lvl 1 caster. He continued to project his WS to nearby units via the helm of amazingness, but at that point he was a 400 point level 1 caster.
But the truth of the matter, is that the same thing could happen to anyone. Anyone's lvl 4 can turn into a lvl 1 with just one bad roll. About the only one's immune to this stuff is WoC with thier infernal puppet. I know that I'd sooner take a S6 hit on all my vamps than my one caster become totally useless.
Played a tournament game vs a vamp player yesterday. He cast dance with his general in a unit of crypt ghouls to get a flank charge on a unit of saurus warriors. Rolled two dice, and boxcars. When the miscast was over, 5 warriors were dead, the vamp lord, and all but two of the crypt ghouls. That was on turn 2, so the rest of the game was pretty much over.
I am right 94% of the time, why worry about the other 3%.
It all evens out in the end. Hell, sometimes I've rolled six dice with a caster and not managed double sixes until the third attempt (which admittedly went on to kill him).
Or there was the one time my empire opponent double-sixed Regrowth, gained two models back, then lost three to the miscast result XD .
Having an army and not owning a rulebook is like owning a car with no steering wheel.Originally Posted by amishcellphone
last game i played i didn't even have a magic lord, just lvl 2 combat lord like i usually do. Miscast on 2 dices...aand killed around 18 skeletons and 5 Grave Gaurd and one wound on him. If im honest, the scariest is having your casters killing your army which happened to me.
The funny thing was it was an ION and revived 6 GG ^^
still though, dont take your vamp caster in a unit!!! Hellsteed, wristband of gold against everything ranged and then if he gest a misscast, well he is a caster so its a risk you have to take. But dont get him killing your other units that the biggest problem with the new miscast table.
well each time you cast on 2 dice there's a 1/36 chance of miscast and since you cast 2 or 3 times per magic phase it adds up. even taking these low estimates you'll be averaging a miscast every other game... if you have a really dedicated caster lord who casts on 3 or more dice the odds of miscast get even higher! I could easily see someone's caster lord miscasting every single game.
hopefully in the new book vamps get a way to avoid or lessen the effects of miscast, cause right now they really aren't great
ward save well it atleast helps with blowing up
I've taken vamps to two tournaments now, both with the item that re-rolls a single miscast, this item never really helped because every time I used it I rolled the same result again!
12 Games. Died once to mistcast even though I re-rolled the result, got it again! The miscasts weren't that bad, must have been lucky, compared with every friendly game I've had where I was miscasting first turn and either dieing or losing 3 magic levels.
The risk of miscasting isn't very fun, can't relax during the tournament! compared with Orcs and Goblins where I don't care at all when my Level 4 dies (usually turn 1 casting on 3 dice).
