Welcome to Librarium Online!
ok my other 40k project was shut down my beloved Deff Jesters.....sigh...... and i cant re do the thread it gets deleted,so i have decided to start a new project on vampier counts and have a few questions and ideas.
i dont own a vampire codex(its on route) how ever i did once have an enourmouse orc army led by ahzag and gorbad<3 on a good day i owned and on a bad day i owned my self seriously fun army to play with, the reason im not doing orcs and gobbos is becouse ive done them owned every model and as i have said they are ither the best army at the tournament or the worst, unriliable also there fluff is limited there is only short sections of the warboses past and no books and if there in a book there always the enemy.
When i was younger it was all about how many models i had and how many battles i had won but now its more the flufff side of things so books are important they realy help you get a feel for your army,I also have bretts they are boring as far as models go but there fluff and books are fantastic knights errant, knight of the realm, and so on these are the only books i have read in my life this realy says something about those books and i hope the vampire books wil be the same if not better.
The base of my army will be btw this is all guess work untill i get that codex:
i forgot wich 1 is the level 4 mage but i will use his stats but not the model that is my lord
60xzombies i just love zombies i no there stats are rubbish but i will have loads i played a game against them with my brets i was over whelmed by zombies his lords and heros just kept summoning them i was in ore of his army i will use the same tactics
8xblood knights these will be converted from bretonian KOTR becouse you have another thing comeing if you think im paying 60£ for 5 men
20xgrave guard or 10 i dunno how many points they are these are the guards for my heros these will be converted out of skelly bits and men at arms bodys becouse the grave guard are horendouse they are 80s throw backs.
Tactics loads of zombies and a blood knight squad to start on the board then then my three necromancers will summon another army of zombies also and beat the enemy with shear number from what i have hurd this =win, what is your view on this.
THOUGHTS gimme ideas eerything will be converted kit bashing green stuff plasticard im useing zombies from Kings of war they crap all over GWs,16£ for 30 COME HERE! they are the same size more detaild and the bases are the same size any 1 have a problem with this.
Also the charicters wont be regular gw models im using the necromancer from Avatars of war have you seen him <3 and im also going to convert 40k im stuck on a chaos sorcerar or dark elf lord green stuff them up to be vampys we shal see ive got so many ideas.
Painting i want to paint them a greeny coulor or bluey or even purpely (im well aware they arnt words) not solid coulors but so the skin looks off and tainted almost cartoon like my painting is not bad but i cant paint flesh so does any 1 have a tutorial on painting zombie flesh or any tips would be cool also baseing tips i want a swampy looking bases like GWs(the nurgel scorceror on mounts) base but have no idea how to do it.
1.do you mind me useing KOW models/other wargames minitures.
2.is the zombie horde list competative.
3.can i summon more than zombies??.
4.how doo knights fair in comparison to other cavilry.
5.what are ghouls like?.
6.when was vamps last updated i mean like a new army book
just thought i would add i am going to make a abomination from warcraft 3 out of a oger and green stuff and use corpse cart rules if you arnt aware of what a abomination is its a ball of meat with legs and huge meat cleaving weapons.
so give me your thoughts.
My formula for making a zombiebus work;
a) add 1x Lord w/Helm of Commandment, mix in Forbidden Lore (beasts) + Earthing Rod + ward save, bunker in skeletons for safty. This guy will cast wildform every turn on a big unit of deadheads to give them average stats.
b) need 2x necros w/Invocation & Vanhel's for raising/supporting with combat buffs.
c) bring a bus of 8-10+ Blood Knights including a Blood Drinker lord to keep his drinking buddies healed up!
Grave Guard are fun, 20 is better than 10 for sure because Unstable sucks, Banner of the Barrows for best effect...
d) NEVER!!! and I mean NEVER EVER!!! send the blood knights and/or other hitty unit into the same combat as your zombies! (you'll just get your expensive unit crumbled in record time...)
Overall, it's nowhere near the most competitive army, but with 1-2 beast wizards and a helm to help out, zombies can be lots of fun! And when the worst happens, it's always fun to mock your opponent about how his silly & over-powered chosenstar couldn't waste all 100 zombies in one go!
1. I wouldn't mind if you used the KOW or AOW models, in fact those AOW models are so badass looking I'm definitely getting several of them... but which one first? BTW is the designer a former GW guy? because they're clearly catering to warhammer and the design is somewhat similar.
2. Zombies aren't the most competitive, but they can be and your opponent won't be expecting some of the tactics that people use to make them work. Granted it was 7th edition, but in a hard boyz one guy took 300-400 zombies! He had them lined up all across the board so that nobody but flyers could get past them. He put all his vampires on hellsteeds and had a 2-3 casters dedicated to raising more zombies. It was a points denial list, as the zombies were the only real target and he was able to raise just as fast as they were killing them. It was interesting to watch, I'm not sure how well it'll work in 8th though since units get more attacks now and there is no more autobreak.
3. everything other than zombies can be summoned back to their starting strength. Ghouls, bats, dire wolves and skellies can be summoned above starting strength with an appropriate summoning power. As far as creating new units, you can create zombies or spirit hosts.
4. Our blood knights are amongst the best out there, they are not the most efficient points vs points, but they will carve through most things you point them at. A couple of notes though:
-They are only I4, which means most elite units that you'll want to face will strike before you. Vanhel's is great with blood knights.
-They are expensive enough that you usually can't field them in large numbers unless your dedicating to a blood bus: see 626's advice above on that.
-if you don't want to run a lord in there, 4 basic blood knights makes a great flanking/distraction unit. They still put out 12 WS5 S7 attacks on the charge.
-if you are running your lord in there, remember you need 5 rank and file (i.e. any blood knight who isn't a champion) to get a look out sir role. Flag of the blood keep is necessary in my opinion if your using it to house your lord as a lot of nasty things will fly your way.
5. ghouls are the most efficient core unit we have, and on a point vs point basis, one of the best core in the game. While they're unstable and crumble, that means they are unbreakable as well so you can be pretty sure of what they can do and given the numbers, will hold any unit in the game. They have good toughness, a good number of attacks and poison so they are much more than a tarpit. They're one downside really is inability to hold a banner.
6. can't exactly remember, been a few years now. I don't think VC are in line for a new book anytime soon though, too many ahead of us (dwarfs, brettonians, wood elves spring to mind)
Most Notable Achievements:
Killed a Revenant Titan in one shot.
Killed 900 pts worth of Blood Angels in 2 turns while only loosing 4 pts.
Blood knights are honestly either the best or second best cavalry unit in the game, fighting for the spot with chaos knights. I have run a blood bus with a combat lord, and wight king with drankenhoff banner. It obliterates whatever it hits generally speaking. You just have to be wary of how the unit behaves since it is frenzied.
thanks for the info guys im makeing blood knights now ill get a pic on tomorow they have been converted from bret kotr orc stuff chaos stuff nid stuff,i no your thinking nid stuff wtf but i made a scyth from a carnifex arm looks tremendouse IMO any way.
still no codex i orderd a boat load of stuff from wargamer takeing forever to get here,i also have a 7th rule book could you lot tell me the big changes like no aouto break and such or will i have to get the new rule book becouse it has had a complete revamp.
i have asked a few vamp guys in my local GWs and they all said about the same thing zombie horde = cheesy mega poonage i have never known any body use ghouls thoughe nor was i informed of there poisen attacks 6= aouto wound yea? wich is awsome,a qhoul horde sounds cool to there baseicly fast moveing zombies infact i like the sounds of them more than the zombies what base size are they if its the same as a zombie ill use them as ghouls.
couple more questions sorry about this but like befor no codex :p
could you give me the zombie stat line befor and after it has been buffed.
what are corps karts like any good? i want to use that type of unit for my abomination sculpt the idea is its fat ways about 3 tuns and charges at the enemy in a frenzied state.
picys comeing soon.
btw the goblin heros from AOW are EPIC!!!!!! the goblin king and necromancer are among my faveourates any way ill get back to converting.
a) against forum rules to ask for printed & copyrighted material.
b) highly illegal to give out copyrighted into without GW's permission!
You will have to go and get yourself the current VC army book, and also a copy of the 8th ed rulebook if you want to play... Look through evilbay, I'm sure there's a craptone of the island of blood pocket rulebooks to be had for cheap.
a) entirely misheard/understood what they told you, because it's the other way 'round - ghouls are the epic-win!
b) got lied to...
Zombies, suck plain and simple. They are so bad right now in 8th, that even at -1pt they still wouldn't be worth taking in any kind of competitive setting!
8th ed has basically shelved zombies altogether... Worst stats in the game, fear nerf, further gimped by 'unstable' rule. Skaven Slaves which are considered the tarpit of tarpits are only half the cost of zombies! (and they can actually kill a couple enemy models too, something zombies don't unless you've got at least 20 or so attacks...) I've had basic units like empire state troops or bret men-at-arms or hell, even freaking gobbos utterly massacre large zombie units within a turn. (and I'm talking 30-40 or so zombies here!)
You can't even use the zombies to support your main hitters because of how crumbling works. And it still costs pts just to raise a small unit of them to force a redirect against an unwanted enemy charge or to just block LoS.
Finally, zombies are IIRC, the only ranked unit in the entire game that CANNOT include character support?!! (Stupid, I know - necros should be right at home here!)
The only way to make zombies work;
a) give-up on the idea of having a competitive list, because you will get run over by most other armies... Sure 100 zombies looks awsome, but it won't last more than 2 turns in combat and I doubt the rest of your army can make-up for the wasted pts. (basically, you need to think of it as having only 75% total pts as compared to your opponent...)
b) take 2+ casters with Lore of Beasts. The signature spell at least buffs the zombies S/T upto the game's average, if you can cast them/don't get them dispelled...
You'll also want Necros for spaming invo & vanhel's. Even with all these buffs combined, you still won't see your zombies killing much...
c) Helm of Commanadment is an auto-include. At least you can make 1 non-vanhels'ed unit WS-awsome.
Basically, while it's a really fun theme to run boatloads of zombies, don't get fooled into thinking you'll actually be able to compete much with such a list... paying pts for zombies actually weakens our army. (because Gav Thorpe who wrote our book is an idiot...)
Ghouls are sadly now the staple of a VC army. Only core choice we have that lay the hurt in an edition that's all about killing as much as you can...
see that is the type of answer i wanted ghouls it is what base size are they ?becouse the gw models look like 25mm and not the zombie 20mms
ahhhhhhhh my zombies came but only 1 box my lord come no codex glue come and paint set my blood knights are ready for viewing but no camera im in 5th gear with this one any 1 no a good vamps book i can read whilst at work i ttyped in good vampire books warhammer but the reviews are by none warhammer fans i want a warhammer fan opinion on the best vampy books <3
