Hey guys I have recently purchased the start of my vampire counts: 1 mounted mannfred conversion, winged lord, and 5x blood knights. I'm having issues settling on a paint scheme since I'd like a unique looking army. I'm having a really hard time finding examples of painted armoured vampire models. It seems every search for vampire counts I attempt brings up the GW stuff, a horde of zombies, or a really low res image taken 10 years ago.
I was wondering if there were any great threads/blogs/websites that anyone could link me to help give me some inspiration. I've been trying to find some really dark colour schemes with weathered armour. I believe that if vampires are centuries year old, then they would take pride in riding into battle adorned in their ancient battle armour passed through the bloodline. As such I want the armour to look somewhat rough with maybe the slightest hue of colour.
For example I really like what these guys did with their winged vampire lord's armour and varghulf: Micro Art Studio

Wow those pictures are amazing thanks for linking to them
As for your question, maybe try a chaos approach to your armour or google something different like baroque armour.
Thanks a lot for your suggestion on the baroque armour. I googled it and some of those pics gave me some great ideas. I'm not sure as to whether or not metalic colours would be the best choice. For my primary colour I'll be experimenting with a mix of chaos black/boltgun metal and chaos black/adeptus battlegrey. Once my primary colour is chosen, a light dry brush of bleached bone will provide an slightly weathered look. (Some selective washing of devlin mud may also provide a more ancient look)
Alternatively, I've also been toying with the idea of a much lighter scheme. Base black, Dheneb stone, heavy devlin mud wash, dry brush bleach bone. This scheme would give me something along the lines of a weathered bone colour.
Ugh so many possible options!

With the dheneb stone try a sepia wash then add in battle first with... Try bestial brown or snakebite leather and then add some boltgun still showing your brown, a gentle flick of mithril and then underline only with a nice thin highlight of skull white under your damage.
Sorry I got an image in my mind and had to go with it
If you wanted to baroque the armour this would look great using a gold detail, start with tin bitz and do it before your battle damage.
You could even rust it up with a wash of vermin or plague brown or even add sone jade green washing to places for a verdis look
