Welcome to Librarium Online!
So what do u guys think GW has coming our way? I'm fairly optimistic and looking forward to (maybe) zombies being useful
The current obvious 'no-brainer' choices will be removed. (and good riddence I say!)
Our magic will be brought in-line with 8th ed. (and hopefully we'll still be able to raise stuff!)
Almost every unit will be viable in some way and we'll finally have more than 1 list to compete with!
People will still whine that VC's are broken & OP'd because we can raise stuff and our entire army is unbreakable...
My guess is that Necromancers will be back and in a big way, possibly making them the big power casters of the book, and at a reasonable price as they will probably have the same stats as an Empire Wizard Lord. This will also probably see vamps not seeing a power level above 3, without taking some bloodline power which has a hinderance to it. Something that will make the vampire stand out as more magicaly adept and so physicaly weaker perhaps, Necrach (or somthing like that, cant remember off the top of my head).
Saying that im hoping bloodline powers all come with a bit of a hinderance to there large bonus. Like if you take a blood dragon bloodline power you become a combat monster, but maybe at the cost of a magic level, or somthing smaller like -1 when casting which is probably fairer.
Back to necromancers, they will most likely take spells just like any other mage, with access to shadow, death as well as undead. Dont see any need for Lo fire. Come at Hero and Lord Levels, and corpse carts i can see maybe getting a boost to act as mounts with extra benifits for higher level characters. Increased range and raising power etc, as well as passing regen to the rider etc.
Zombies, would be nice if they had some special rule. Regen on 5+ when in combat would be fun and themed, means you can also take the regen against crumble test. And just like that the tarpit is back. Might be worth having a rule for slain models aswell, that for every model slain roll a D6, on the roll of a 6 the model raises bac up as a zombie (so jut add a zombie to the unit), Infantry and cavalry only. The regen might need a trigger like having a necro near or in the unit or even reserving the ability for a spell, but if it was just given to them, keeping all stats the same, it would make an awsome unit to take. I would probably drop the dragged down rule where zombies dont roll to persue but roll to pull down fleeing models. Its ok but doesnt bring much to them as a tar pit unit.
Ghouls i would make cheaper, but i would also make you buy poison attacks in that case. Still, even with poison i would only charge 7pts which is still cheaper than current.
Skeletons to see points drop to half there current cost.
Here's a thought, what if necromancers (including necro lords) are always T3?!
Considering they are walking a very fine line between becoming a powerful Liche, or else more likely fading into an incorporeal wraith, they don't seem like they would be the phsyical guys about?!
I dont see it bringing much to necromancers themselves in anyway. You would need a + side to being stuck at T3. They wouldnt be turning into wraith like things anyway, if anything they would become more like Nagash, becoming more resilient yet more dependant on magic to sustain them. Sure they would start off weak as a hero level 2, even the weakest human is T3. By the time the reach Lvl 3-4 you can expect them to be channeling so much magic that they deserve a T4. Unless you let them regen a wound for every spell they cast, im not sure you could get it to work.
New models wise, i can see new black knights, which will probably become cheaper or with barding automaticaly. they may get a power boost to help shift new models off the shelves.
Monsterous cavalry is a big thing but i think BK will cover that spot. So a new big rare monster could be on the cards to trump these spiders and sphynxs etc. A flesh Golum would be cool, better i think than a unit of ogre size flesh golums. The number of abilities open to a large monster like that are immense. Breath weapon, moving catapult ability, buffs for units, the list goes on. Im sure they making living (undead) siege weapons in Zombie slayer,so theres a bit of fluff to support a mass of bodies being combined to form a giant monster, and to be fair its was VC need, able to take a big beasty without a lord/hero option.
Most of the time a necro ends up an an undead himself, or else those who serve the likes of a necrarch or strigoi and prove themselves adept enough are given the blood kiss and become thralls.
I think keeping all necros at T3 would give them a bit more idenity as not only the out casts they are, but the fact that the path of the necromancer is a truely damned road!
- plastic black knight/wraith rider kit
- 'flesh gollum' monstrous infantry/winged monstrous infantry (think gargoyles!) kit
- mortis engine/coven throne plastic kit (insane lab or lahmian passion wagon)
- various characters, including a new Krell sculpt
We already have more rares than we know what to do with... The terrorghiest covers the big un-ridden gribbly quite well enough! Give us core that counts towards the required 25%, and more than 4 gakking special choices for feth's sake!!! We're currently tied with brets for the fewest special choices of any army right now - talk about utter BS!!! (especially considering 2 of those choices plain suck)
Flesh Golems? Awesome! I hope they have some nice rules to go with them, because that would be a sweet thing to see on the tabletop.
Things I expect to see are Skellies getting a price trim, Zombies will probably have to be re-examined (because a simple price trim won't fix all their problems), Black Knights and Blood Knights also getting a price trim (so that people will actually be tempted to buy those ludicrously expensive Finecast models), the magic to get standardized (and Necromancers to have access to non-Dark Magic Lores, such as Death and Shadows), the Rare section to be left completely alone (except that they might ditch the Wraith unit in favor of the minor Hero versions), the expected item trim (here's to hoping that fluffy stuff like the Black Axe of Krell sticks around!), and Vampire Bloodline powers to be re-examined.
Items like the axe of krell & carstien ring should go to their proper owners! (like hell I want to see them stick around - they're crap compared to almost any other option!)
I'd like to see us keep the iconic, non-special character items like the periapt, good book, staff 'o damnation, cursed book, blood drinker and such... Let's hope we get a TK/Ogre list of items, and not the Orc&Gobbo treatment!
I dont care much about the new stuff they would unfold, for me fixing the current flaws is a little more important. There are a number of problems that we have right now that really limit vamp competetiveness, but if fixed would greatly help the race back up the food chain.
1. Skeletons are patheticly overpriced, and could use one hell of a point reduction
2. Black knights look terrible, up to a point where on a good day a turd floating around in my toilet looks better than a black knight painted to highest most GW standard
3. I shouldnt have to say anything about the blood knights because they are simply a rip off, which actually explains why no one wants to buy GW products - 0ver $120 for 10 figures which doesnt even constitute 2 full ranks?
4. The new rule book really screwed vamps in the magic phase with the whole concentration thing. They failed to take into account that vamps dont roll a massive 12+ for their magic. For undead its all about making a ton of low rolls, but with the concentration, limit on the number of power dice and having to channel each magician - lets just say undead magic isnt what it once was...
