What do the others of you think of this new model.
I can see The mortis engine being quite useful in support, myself, and if the enemy is not careful it can be quite a threat in the later stages of the game when it is dishing out high strength hits to everything within its range.
The regeneration it provides is going to work well with any other models boasting such a save (strigoi and crypt horrors, plus any magic item giving regen is going to be enhanced)as well as making the units just that bit more difficult to kill off.
You are also getting a free banshee howl, which is worth the cost of one of those boys in its own right!
Not totally sure about the blasphemous tomes though - the +2 to casting seems really good but the risk it carries makes it a seriously double edged sword and I wouldnt want to be double rolling on the miscast table with my vampire lord who fluked an irresistable force on his two dice casting or some such...
The coven throne is a useful mount for a vampire as well, and if you were lucky with its battle of wills special ability it could easily blast through alot of enemies, and as it can be taken by hero level vampires could be fielded in lower points level games.
The drawback, as with any mount, is that you are having to add another load of points onto a character that is already a substantial investment and this may make it unusable in anything but the very largest battles.
Anyway, I can see myself buying a kit and painting it up, if for no other reason then that they are selling for a fortune on e bay right now and I might well end up being able to buy a second for free with the profit I would be making.

Actually, I wonder if you had three mortis engines and kept the army within their range , could you have the entire army with a 4+ regen save - the first mortis engine activates and gives everything a 6+, the second reduces it to 5+ and so forth....
I would assume so, despite the fact you can only have 2 Mortis Engines in regular games. Looking at it, it would fit a Strigoi army, apart from aesthetically, it looks to ordered to work amongst the ranks of Ghouls. On the Blasphemous tome, I'd still take it, keep your low level Vamps Wizards near, so that their spells are essentially coming from a level 3, much better, great for Invocation spamming too =)

I definitely love the models especially the mortis engine, it was a lot of fun to paint. I think that non marine player has the right idea, the tome really beefs up low level casters. I think the engine should be a mainstay in a VC army, but of course that is personal preference. As for miscasting with the general, I plan on running only a level 1 lord with invocation, and only ever throwing one dice at it. of course I will have 2 level 2 necros who will use more dice, but losing them wont hurt nearly as much.
I am so pissed at myself it ridiculous. I buy the model, put it together, almost finish paiting it and have still not used it in a single game. 2 weeks I've been telling myself to use the damn thing but every game I piss out because Im afraid of experimenting with it... Really gotta do some thing differently in life
So what else is taking up those 200+ points that you could be using the engine in?
Its not really about what those pts are going towards, its just that I havent even made a list that would factor in the engine. I dont think its a kind of model that you can take with ANY list which is 200pts short, you kinda have to think it through, take advantage of the regen save, tome, damage it can do and basically build a list around that.
The way I see it, you have GOT to have some core, and whatever that core units happen to be the mortis engine can give them a regen save which is good.
Also, it can boost wizard castings, meaning more one dice invocations for the opponent to have to worry about.
Also, it has nice ranged abilities with the banshee howl, the ranged hits and also its explosion hits
Lastly, it has some combat power as well, being a chariot and having lots of attacks.
