So just wondering if people are using this model in there army. I tried them out in my last game but due to terrible planning and even worse starting position they watched me win the game. So I have no idea how they fare. I took 6 of them with a mortis engine for support.
Basically wondering if people are finding them worth the points - or at least fun to play. I have another game coming up next weekend just starting to plan and thinking about trying this unit out again.
Ive bought 6 as well and am going to have a go at it with them. With mortis engine I think they are very solid. Keep a vamp or necro nearby to help raise and heal them and on top of that with Vanhells im am sure theyll sparkle.. (sorry.. bad referance.)

They are solid for sure, but they don't hit as hard as other units, so I don't plan on taking them because I feel thats what my 'special' units should be.
They're the finest anvil unit available to VC. They won't kill many things on their own, but they can grind with anybody if you field 9 or so of them, which frees you up to send your other units in the enemy flank to support.

if they're not winning combats they're dying from crumble faster than you can res them, how does that make them worthwhile?
Admittedly I don't have a VC army yet, (but I have spent hours making lists, reading the internets and pouring through the book for what it's worth), but it seems like if you're unit is not going to win you combat you need lots of models to absorb crumble or lots of D6 invocations to make sure they don't fall apart completely. Crypt horrors don't seem tooled to do either... they are average/decent at combat, but due to being MI you can't bring them back fast enough if they lose 2-3 wounds per combat. What am I missing in my analysis?
If you can back them up with the Mortis Engine as mentioned above they'll have a 4+ Regen save, combined with their toughness of 5 makes them very durable.
True, but my point is durability is wasted on undead units that can't kill stuff. Even if they don't take ANY wounds, they're probably facing 3 ranks + standard so they're going to crumble. As far as I can tell if you're playing VC your units either need to have offense or numbers to be useful, without one or the other they're not going to hold out very long.
They are far more durable then any other bunker unit we have when the mortis engine is within range. In addition, they can dish out more damage than zombies, skellies and ghouls. Just try them out and see if they work for you. With Toughness of five and a half chance of saving a wound due to Regen, combined with three str 4 poison attacks make them pretty damn good in my book. In the battles where I've used them they have done quite well.
If you have a level 4 you should be able to res them fast enough. ( they get 1 + wizard level) but even still, my core does the job of taking hits and getting ressurected just fine and then I can take grave guard or black knights with a few vargheists to do damage. I don't know, they just don't seem worth it to me. To each their own ofcourse. They would be a much better unit if they had a higher weapon skill.
