Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've never played with strigo since I see their lack of protection rather annoying
but with BD thralls I usually give him. as many attacks as possible like red fury and another hand weapon. or maybe sword of battle and enchanted shield with heavy armour that will give him a good save
although with strigo you can get a hero with S 6 and 4 A and reroll all missed attacks. but no armour and only a 6+ ward.
I guess that is pretty much a choice of playing style
give a BD the Flayed Hauberk and swor of might that is good +1 S and AS +1
Flayed haubrek great weapon and that 20/15 pt bloodline power
Thats a WS8 S7 A3 model dissing out punishment every turn,with a 1+ armour save.
Strigoi are good for killing troops, but frankly ive killed them with unit champions before. 2 Wounds w/ a 6+ ward at normal toughness is about as fragile as a hero can get.
Strigoi vampire thralls may only have a 6+ ward save but they can also get regeneration and dont forget that they are the only non-mounted vampire thrall that moves 20" (along with my very large units of fell bats)
Out of those two, I would prefer Blood dragon for an offensive roll. As others have said, much better armour and can be given magic weapons or even a great weapon to make them very efficient killers, Von Carsteins do well enough for me I can only imagine the improved Blood Dragon.
Sending a vampire 20" with bats could be very useful for destroying warmachines or lone mages. From there getting a rear charge if the unit strength is high enough would rock, since the vampire will kill a fair few.
You two are very misguided about the rules it seems
1. The regenration is a 55 point bloodline for strigoi. Meaning only a lord can take it,and its certainly not free
2. Characters cannot join flying units. This means he can be singled out by missle fire, and with a 6+ ward hes dead. Even if he wasnt, since he takes break tests seperate from the fellbats for being in a different squad, one lost combat would probably kill him.
As seen by my name I'm all for Blood Dragons but mine are all alike in the fact that they have Red Fury, Sword of Might, a shield, and heavy armour. This make's me comfortable in the fact that I could charge with these three in a regiment of Grave Guard each and know that hell will be welcome to the chargees.
I'll be damned before the soldiers of the Emperor are just left to rot!

If it doesn't work with the Emperor. Then it's been officially Karmooned!!!
