Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!& #33;
Since school stopped I haven't had internet until now.......(i went to the public library)
Anyway I have been entering some 750 point club battles and I lost to the second best player.....(I am the best as I was club champ last year/04)
He had a movement 9 saurus hero with the sword of the hornets (attack first) and a great weapon, with a 2+ save.
He also had a large saurus unit three small units of skinks and a unit of 5 cavalry
I took a necro with the book
a thrall with iron sinews and summon ghouls
a unit of 14 skellies with light armour + command
a unit of about 14 ghouls and a ghast
a unit of 19 zombies +SB +music
and a banshee
what he does is charge his boss into b2b with my necro then he kills him (well actually he didn't, but it was close)
I can't reallistically make my necro leave the unit as the skinks can hunt him down, so can the Movement 9 boss.
I have thought about putting my necro in the skellie unit and challenge his boss with the captain, (he can't refuse) and I'll beat him by combat resolution and make him auto-flee due to fear.
Anyway some help would be apreciated.

Cast zombies in a line on the feild with Invocation of Nehek befor your eniemy gets nearby. You need it to be as many models long as you can get it, this will stop your enemie's charge and by the time you get your close combat units there the zombies should be dead, and out of your way.
And don't buy zombies, they are a waste of points, get better units. And don't count on them doing anything other than getting in the way and blocking line of sight, that is their purpose.
Put your banshee into combat with units with no magical weapons and have your general within 12 inches.

Why would you accept a challenge with your necro unless you have to (i.e. have only 1 rank)? Just refuse the challenge with the necro and accept it with a unit champion. Following turn, slam another unit into his side and break him!
Zombie / skellie speed bumps are also geat for flank charges!

Having a fast and strong thing to do a suicide run against someone (usually a mage) in a unit is a powerful tactic and there is not a lot you can do about it. In fact, all you can do is use unit champions to declare a challenge with him and let them die. Thats what you need to do to keep the necro alive, and if that tactic is being used against you then that is what you should do to combat it.
Grimbog, it isn't a matter of accepting a challenge with the necro. This guy is not challenging, he is simply directing all his attacks against one model which he can do if he is in base contact with him. No challenge needed, simply assassinate a better thing then die.
I just have to point this out... he can't use this combo. If armed with a magic weapon it must always be used, so unless his magic sword was destroyed the GW was redundent and pointless. But if he used it, then he's breaking the rules. He had a movement 9 saurus hero with the sword of the hornets (attack first) and a great weapon, with a 2+ save.
I always have my necros running around at the back of my army and as soon as a enemy gets too close I either run out of their range or join a junit moving to a rank far from him.
I don't know if my opponents are just bad att hunting necros or I'm good at hiding them since they never die
