Welcome to Librarium Online!
The wraith, a pretty cool model, causes terror and is ethereal. But is he worth it?
He is extremely expensive, and i personally don't think he'll do much damage. I 've got the model, but haven't tried him out. Plz tell me if i should use it against my Friend's DE army which usually consists of:
chariots (last time he fielded three!
Edit: and dark riders too. (plus he's planning to get some executioners and witchelves) (he's fed up watching me roll all those 6's and kill of his cost.ly corsairs.
I haven't had a lot of success with wraiths. Like you said, they're costly, but their stats are absolutely mediocre. If the terror test is overcome, he's in combat with a puny weapon skill. And since all elves have high leadership, their chances of overcoming the terror are pretty good. Personally, I'd rather take a hero that can blast some spells or do some heavy fighting.
The people who do champion wraiths often equip him with the cursed book.
Against certain armies they are certainly good fun - those armies being low leadership ones who stand a good chance of running off.
I have to admit that normally I go with a thrall but the chance of a terror test succeeding is something that can really pay off.
Useful combinations include:
1. Wraith with the obsidian amulet - more of a character hunter on his own, probably on a horse: gets the movement, extra attack and extra unit strength.
2. In a unit - with the cursed book: skeletons are good as you can raise those troops up but grave guard will also do very well. I wouldn't recommend Black Knights because chances are you'll get a lot of of gunfire & magic thrown at them and in due course you'll lose a hero without much of a fight.
Either GG or BK can take a banner and for this a Screaming Banner is good news: however bear in mind that if you've given teh wraith something as well you've got a unit with an awful lot of points in it - awful being the operative word.
I've not played Dark Elves so I won't give any specific advice, but with their leadership I wouldn't bother taking a wraith against them.
Mordheim: Middenheimers & Night Goblins
Wraith with an obsidian amulet, gives you an etheral character (can't be damaged by normal weapos) and has a 4+ save against magical attacks. plus has two S5 attacks... well worth the points in my opinion. the terror is just great. it inflicts fear in those horrible cold ones. so all you'll have to do is beat them in combat and you can watch them run!!!
err... ok in summary i think they're pretty cool.
IMHO the wraith is not worth the points
Its not enough to beat the cold ones in combat, unless you outnumber them, they will not run automaticly.
With a wraith you really should not count on scoring any wounds, so they will have to be in a large regiment.
For 5 points less (than a wraith with obsidian amulet) you can a unit of 2 spirit hosts. Which means Unit Strenth 6 instead of 1, still ethereal, 8 attacks in stead of 2, and 6 more wounds.
If you spend the points on a char, a wight lord in a GG regiment, will probably do better.
Yeah, wraiths are good against low ld armies, but then again, the entire army causes fear! That alone is your best advantage and spending the extra points on terror is almost overkill. I've played many games against orcs & goblins and came out ahead most of the time without using a terror unit.
A terror unit is good when your facing a high ld army that contains a few low ld units, but still, not exactly worth the points. I'd rather bank on making units flee by outnumbering than through terror anyway.
It's good when you are facing an army that causes fear (*cough* Ogres *cough*), as then your terror causers are reduced to fear causers, and Ogres don't exactly have the best leadership unless they are near a tyrant.Originally Posted by WCUServo
