Welcome to Librarium Online!
Many people tell me that Vampire Counts are great against Lizardmen. Sadly, I do not see this. Me friend and I both started playing Warhammer, and coincedentally Lizardmen, at the same time. Since then, I have switched to VC. I have never beaten him when I have played me Vampire Counts.
I do not use a set Bloodline, as I like to try new things. Currently, im trying Blood Dragons, minimal magic and many Dire Wolves. (Bad idea?)
He uses many, many skinks, including the max amount of Skink Priests.
He also uses the max number of salamanders he can have, as well.
The only hitting units he uses, are a unit of 8 saurus cavalry and 20 Temple guard with a second generation Slann (if he can take the option).
The tips I have recieved before are to use banshees or dire woves against skinks and salamanders. Without needing line of sight for Lore of Heavens, I'm lucky if the banshee screams before she dies, and many, many dire wolves have fallen to the might poison of the lizardmen.
Additionally, it was suggested I max out on dispel scrolls when dealing with the Slann, This has worked for me, at least as bets it can against the second generation Slann.
I have found that ghouls help very much against the skink skirmishing menace, but fall quickly to the Lightning Bolts who follow us when we venture to battle against the Lizards.
Any other suggestions on tactics and/or army composition would be greatly appreciated.
Hummm sounds to me like you need some black knights and grave guard, if he doesnt have much hitting power then you need some solid units wich he will have trouble hurting.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

Yeah, I know what you mean, Beastbrawl. My friend who got me into warhammer plays Lizardmen as one of this two armies, and only recently, very recently, have I gotten any wins against him.
The skinks are a big nuisance. Occasionally, I'll ignore a unit if it's not endangering an important unit. For instance, in our last game, I let him pick away at a zombie unit with his javelins, and only occasionally would I summon back zombies to protect the necromancer in this unit. I've found that the Rod of Flaming death works well against skinks, because a kill is likely, and only one is needed to get those buggers panicking. Sometimes I'll stretch out a summoned unit of zombies like a rope to make a blockade against skink fire.
I use ghouls to screen against skink fire. Be careful charging into a unit of skinks as their stand and shoot can really hurt. Get close enough so that they can't stand and shoot.
I HATE his kroxigors and salamanders. My spirit hosts have worked great against both units, and he HATES them. Problem is, only spirit host when he has two units I want to use them against. In our last game, I swarmed his kroxigors with spirit hosts, ghouls, and a small unit of ten summoned zombies. I broke those buggers and ran 'em down. It's all about combat res in those sort of scenarios.
Get into combat quickly so that the salamanders can't spit fire the whole time.
If he's fielding Slann, I'd recommend two necromancers and a Von Carstein or Necrarch. It'll still be a tough challenge since Slann are nasty, nasty magic users.
I always try to dispel attacks on my banshee, or heal her when necessary. Even if it means letting other spells go. CLose to combat quickly to avoid that damned comet of cassandora.
As for his saurus, I do the usual undead thing, hit them from as many sides as possible and try to break them. I've even taken out stubborn temple guard this way. (Watch his jaws drop when his Slann's fleeing unit is run down by a bunch of braindead zombies!).
What else? I rarely use bat swarms, but theyre nice to tie up his swarms. I use fell bats to harrass his priests, even on occasion letting them fly kamikaze into a unit if he's hidden there to direct all their attacks (or as many as possible) against him.
Good luck! Im my experience, lizardmen have been tough. And lore of heavens works well against undead.
there is one problem about the games which you have been playing and i made the same mistake when i started playing vp. the thing is if you read your vp book you'll find that the dire wolves are an undead unit and that undead are immune to poison!!!
so go kick some spineless butt!!!!!!

VCs are NOT immune to poison, this has been clarifiyed many times by GW. This ed they can still be poisoned, you just assume that the enemy has a poison that's deadly to the dead.
Undead aren't immune to poison (Although I think they should, because they're allready dead)
If that's the case, then why not make them all invunerable?
Lore of Heavens DOES now require LOS, it was in an errata to balance the lores.
My Temple Guard never get run down by zombies, because if I take them (and that's a big IF) I go the whole hog and give them the banner of prophecy, making them cause fear, and therefore be immune to it.
Do you use the Revised Lores of Magic? In these, Heavens still doesn't need Line of Sight, but has range restrictions, making it less harsh on your troops. Obviously, your Amethyst magi don't benefit from the Beasts/Life buffs...Originally Posted by Beastbrawl

The thing to do here is rather obvious, Blood Dragon will be rather hard to use against a badass Magic wielder like a second gen. Slaan. Take a Von Carstein Count, give him Summon Wolves, Aura of Dark Majesty, and Walking Death.
You say he uses a lot of skinks? Well if he wants to play the numbers game trust me, you will win, Take enormus units of Skeles without spears and just ram them into his skinks, they wont be going anewere for a while.
Put your count into your largest skele unit, preferably one with armor. Make sure they are in the middle and just auto-break those skinks to hell. As for those damned priests, summon wolves and have them chase them around, it would also be a good idea to give a thrall Wolf Form and the Flayed Hauberk.
As for the guard they wont last long if you hit them in the sides with BK. Get 1 Hard hitting unit maybe BK would be the best choice. Get another Dire Wolf pack and have them take care of the sallamanders, you could also stick a Necro in a skele unit in the middle and cast Curse of Years, people underestimate its effectiveness but if you get the skeles into combat early, which u probly will due to Aura, then you can start first turn, by turn three it wounds all on 4+.
Put Dispel Scrolls on both your Necros to save your wolves and thrall as they run around slowly eliminating the Slaans magic capacity.
Do this correctly and u will win. Do not keep your BD vamps, i HAVE won against LM with my BD but it was sooo hard i still have nightmares  .
