Welcome to Librarium Online!
Sure its good, but its still 100 points, thats no other magic item, or blood line power... any suggestions would be helpfull.
tnks in advance
Carstein Ring, Runefang, Frostblade, some Dark Elven suit of magic armour - there are such items in existence.
But, let me see:
Curse of the Revenant Bloodline Power or Protean Form Chaos Mutation - 55pts
Heart-Gem of Darkness, Holy Relic or some other 4+ Ward - 45pts
Should be worth it, considering the usefulness of both (and just about no one complains about the cost of either), I'd say it is worth it. Want an unkillable Vampire? The Carstein Ring is for you.
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
I think too much is sacrificed, and vampires can stand up to almost any characters as is. But yes, it does seem to make one almost unkillable. Maybe in a 3000 pt game?
Book of hoeth is also 100 points...
Add up the crown ofd the damned cost and the cost of the regeneration Strigoi power, it is less than 100 points...
I personally would never take any items that are 100 points, it is just too much of a point sink and smaller combos often turn out more effective in different ways and cheaper. But if you take the Carstein ring it does mean you don't have to think about combos, so its good for beginners. Just chuck on the ring and give him a great weapon and you have a nigh unkillable vampire who hits pretty damn hard. It is certainly an option that people have used well and is the simple way out of equiping your character but I still find combos are better than taking one item. Don't forget nasty things like Vaul's unmaking too...
For 100 points, you get a character that every time he is killed by 1000 wounds, even after his ward saves, stands up on a 4+, a 50/50% chance of negating death (Assuming he only had 1 wound left to begin with, no matter how many he suffered after).Originally Posted by strewart
It is worth it, but the question is, is the sacrafice of the other stuff you can't take worth it.
The general is important in the VC army, and regeneration is ALWAYS good. It's a matter of opinion. I might throw it on my Sylvania general every once and a while.
In a HUGE game, where you can keep your General out the way and let another lord do the rampageing then yes, otherwise its a bit to expensive for regenerate when a cannon ball could kill you out right with not chance of regenerateing.
PROUD TO BE IN THE BRITISH ARMY.

This statement is completely false (with the cannon ball and regeneration thing). This is what happens if a cannon ball comes towards a Vampire Lord with the Von Carstein Ring.
Assuming he is in a unit, he gets a 2+ look out sir roll. If he fails this, he is wounded on a 2 (Str 10 vs T 5). If he is wounded, he gets to take a 4+ Ward save, if he fails the 4+ ward save, the cannon does D3 wounds, (D6 if it is a great cannon). Let's assume it's the absolute worse case scenario, and it's a great cannon that hit the general (failed look out sir roll), failed war save, and does 6 wounds. You knock over your general for the shooting phase, as he is "dead". At the end of the shooting phase, you roll for your regeneration. As in one of the FAQs, it says you only have to make as many regeneration rolls as you had wounds before they were inflicted (in this instance 4). So he gets 4 regeneration rolls. Odds are, he WILL stand back up, and then he can just heal himself with invocation of Nehek next turn. The Von Carstein ring is by far the biggest anti-bad luck general death item we have by far.
The only downside is if your general takes one wound from a flame based attack, then he loses regeneration for the rest of the game.
Also, with this Ring, your General does get to go rampaging, as you don't have to worry so much about him dying.
