Welcome to Librarium Online!
i was thinking about adding a unit of mercenaries to my army to fill in an area where i'm lacking....shooting.
i was thinking about using a unit of 16 Marksmen of Miragliano for 246 points.
they all have cross bows and BS4, the leader has BS5, these would be set up in 2 ranks of 8.
one of Bronzino's Galloper Guns for 165 points.
its mounted on a horse for it can move 8" and still shoot 24" at S7 D3 wounds, no armor save.
not too shabby.
lemme know what the rest of you think.
Yeah they can be worth it, for VC maybe a cannon would be a better addition? It will do more damage than a line of crossbows.
As long as you don't care about the fluff of why mers would join the undead, I personally probably would never use DoW and I know lots of others have the same sentiment.
Galloper Gun is a cannon I believe. For Necrarchs it might be easy to imagine the DoW as their own personal army of Renfields that fetch them their bodies and spell components. For Von Carstein I'd imagine they'd be like Dracula's gypsy henchmen from Bram Stoker's Dracula(Movie)... or just like their fluff states the DoW could be the human men at arms from the land of Sylvania. For Lahmia... well let's just say they have a whole army list stating in pretty obvious terms why humans (and even Skaven, Lizardmen, Ogres, Undead, Orcs, Dwarfs, etc...) join up with the Lahmians. I don't think Blood Dragons would use DoW as they are kind of like the Brettonians of the undead world. Strigoi... well hell I don't know hardly a thing about Strigoi so you got me there.
see, i like the fluff thats possible with the DoW, even with undead hosts.
i'm looking to take a Galloper Gun or 2 but i would use skeleton models, a skeleton steed, and a mounted wight as the hero to fit in with my army.
for the marksmen i'd do the same. use empire crossbows and skeleton models.
To heck with fluff! I have three ogre maneaters that give me a hard-hitting monster unit which fits VC nicely because:
1. immune to psychology
2. cause fear
3. stubborn (not quite unbreakable, but oh well)
I love 'em and field at 2000 whenever I can.
Their rules are in the ogre kingdoms book. If you use armybuilder, select allies to find them. They do make up for something the army lacks: hard hitting units, and they have superior stats compared to other ogres, and to other monsters from other armies. They're quite nice, but a bundle of points.
I did almost add galloping guns or some other cannonade, but I liked the ogre models quite a bit (got the female, the ninja, and the pirate--makes for an interesting crew).
I prefer to use a small unit of 4-5 Ogre Bulls as DoW in my Lahmian VC army.
I have not got any Dogs of War yet, however I'm planning on a squad of Ogres for two reasons:
1) They cause fear, and as such everything in my army will.
2) I can make some nice Zombie Ogre conversions. For fluff purposes, they were original Dogs of War, however my general did not want to keep paying and so killed them and forced them to fight for him via the arts of necromancy.
for dogs of war in my Blood Dragon i use leadbelchers that add a much needed punch at range and in combat they normally pay off thier points quick
i love this unit of 3 belchers
