I am wondering if many people use special characters like Zacharis and Mannfred but also the permissable ones like Neferata. I used her in a 2000 point battle today and ended the game after 6 turns with 2215 points including 2 banners and the brittonian general as a thrall plus nightmare, and she worked amazingly, with all the BL powers no single model could beat her and with Bastet, the brittonian questing knights were dropping like flies, quite honestly I don't mind the massive points cost, its the amount of hero/ character slots that she takes up is unfair and geared towards making it so difficult to use her that it is almost stupid to do so. Anyway at the battle end she was unwounded and the skeleton unit she escorted was alsmot and extra half larger. What are your thoughts on the special characters, both codex and GW websites.
I used to use them, because they were powerful.. But now there are only a few across any armies that I would use, and they are not ones that take more than one slot or over a few hundred points. It really is too much of a point sink, and especially for VC where we require characters to support units you aren't helping much by only taking one.
I tried Zacharias once, and theres no way he kills 1000 points and proves worthwhile. He was my only character because of all the slots he takes, so I got a bit overwhelmed by magic or at least wasn't overwhelming the opponent, which always helps.
Maanfred might be nice to try.. But really I think you can make combos that are just as good for a lot less points, plus its more fun making your own.
I think Neferata might be the best VC special character out there. Automatically regenerating, all the bloodline powers. The extra spell that costs wounds to improve. A nasty weapon. A cat that makes armor saves reroll. I mean, she's really a nasty force and more versatile than most special characters.
I like Mannfred too, but I can't imagine fielding him without a nice big unit of cavalry for shelter.
Zacaharias I haven't tried. I could proxy a friend's dragon and give it a go, but unless I'm playing 3000+ points, what's the use?
You know, Ireally like Kemmler and Krell but haven't tried them. I dont like the latest Krell since he still has the crown of the damned but his leadership has dropped from 10 to 6. I mean, really, he'll be stupid almost the entire game. And what good is a kick butt hero who's to dumbfounded to attack?
If I could only pick one, it'd be Neferata.
And I think that even though there are a lot of VC charactesr, there should be one for strigoi and blood dragon too.
Yeah, Neferata definitely rocks. With her cat, and her special magic missile (S5), she might even be able to take out a squad of questing knights all on her own. She is hands down my favorite special character in fantasy.
Manfred doesnt look too bad either. But yeah, i agree, there should be a strigoi and especially a blood dragon one.
