Ive wanted to play VC for a really long time and i just got the army book. I've decided on either Blood dragons or Strigoi for my blood line.
I like both the themes equally but the models i would buy for either army would be pretty differnt.
For the Blood dragons, i'd take the list from the back of the book which allows your Black Knights to fight in lance formation. this theme was really appealing and the sight of droves of fallen knights galloping into battle on their once gallant warhorses sounds pretty dam cool, not to mention the former knight vampire lord leading them into battle about to tear appart the enemy heroes.
For strigoi i would give the army a really bestial feel, incorporating as many zombies and ghouls and dire wolves as possible, relying on the animalistic side of the VC to swarm and devour opponents. For this one I envision givingg my strigoi lord wings... that would be the scariest model ever--
Right so Im realy torn between these two themes- i like them both pretty equally so it basically comes down to which one is more likely to win.
Any tactics tips for a list like either on of these, or suggestions would be cool.

<span style='font-size:14pt;line-height:100%'><span style='color:red'>Blood God's Acolyte</span></span>
Note that you require your opponents permission for the back of the book lists (except Southlands).
I personally like Strigoi best. But what would your theme be for such an army? Your Blood Dragons seem like they would be fairly heavily themed towards Brettonia, and I think that themed armies are the best.
If you go with the blood dragon list in the back you're not likely to win, you'll have a small amount of units with high point costs and next to no magic.
I reccomend using the normal vampire counts list, there's a lot of options for core troops and you get to field necromancers which for blood dragons is a huge magic boost. In a 2000 point game you get 4 special choices anyhow, that's plenty enough for knights and grave guard. You can always give your force the brettonian feel, it seems to be pretty popular.
Also if you go with blood dragons get used to killing character after character and unit champions.
I've never played strigori but I've heard that they're the blood dragons of unit killing. Instead of murdering champions they massacre rank and file troops.
I don't think either one is better than the other, it really just comes down to how you like to play.
I can read now!
Yeah, I'd stick with the normal list, especially if you ever decide to use it in any "official" event. It's more versatile anyhow.
Then I'd say it's a tossup. Check out the "which bloodline" thread and the "playing with" thread at the top of the VC forum if you want discussions of blood dragons and strigoi. And there's the "VC army selector" thread, which has some good info.
And you can devise cool fluff for either one. It's really a toss up, I think. If you want a more knightly army, then go blood dragon. If you want more of a shamble and shake infantry army, go strigoi. Of course, BD could go infantry too.
Definatly finish an official list first. I played against Strigoi in a tourney recently, they did quite well, Blood Dragons are good as well. Both armies are low on the magic power so you'll have to make sure that you get really good at getting flanks and charges.
Strigois are one of the few times I'll take a vampire lord in a 2000 pt game. A Strigoi Lord with four wounds can be given either one more wound or regeneration. Either way, he's sticking around. Make him lvl 3 and add two necros at lvl 2 each, and you've also got a strong magic phase.
Strigoi magic is as good as Von Carstein or Lahmian, and better than Blood Dragon. Only Necrarchs have an edge.
Hmmm... Strigoi, as said, are rank and file killers; infinite re-rolls and an extra wound and strength or regen is very handy and would probably make a good hero killer as well. Blood Dragons are my personal favorite and for thr record my lord has never once lost(though he would have got ass kicked if he wasnt saved by an extremely lucky HoD roll on a bloodthirster) and i find he is nigh unbeatable in close combat. My play style is to play high cost high quality troops and use them as a scalpel to continually slice and dice flanks and rears of bulk units while keeping them occupied with hordes. As also said beforei t depends mostly on your fighting style, as Strigoi are good rushers and have a unuiqe ability to hit things on the map at extreme range as a thrall with bat form or summon ghouls. They also have some truly murderous bonuses and the only time ive seen one go down in one turn is with a blood Dragon lord(mine again). So go with what fluff style fits best for you and try and play what you wnat instead of what everybody says is good.
P.S if my constant lord praising of my BD annoys you i have to be happy since its been 5 straight years without a death for him.
