Welcome to Librarium Online!
Greetings to you fellow blood suckers and brain dead zombies ^_^
I still do not own either undead army but I have so far ploted to make a tomb king army, a rare sight in tournaments these days. But still an not too confortable with them and I just hate to build those bloody chariots (a chariot list that would be), they are too thin to do any interesting convertions with, so I thought about a VC army.
Something that comes to my attention when I play against VC or observe a game, is the all too common lists, they are all very, very similar, not to say statically the same.
Is there a way to make an Original VC list? Asides for the SoC list, wich is a bit too good IMO. I am open to all suggestions, before I get entombed in a crypt in the desert ^_^
There are plenty of themed armies... Heavy knights for blood dragons, fast wolf armies, zombie hordes, there aren't really any units that simply aren't worth it in any army like some of the others have... (HE)
It depends on what playing style you want to develop. Some are obviously easier to use and more effective than others, but the others just require more skill and tactics to use.
No conversion opportunities for TK chariots? I'd have to disagree. All of mine are unique and interesting in some way, though are still WIP. Here is one of them, cut and converted to be rising out of the sand. I have skeletons surfing on the horses with a pair of whips, one guy hanging out the back of the chariot holding on by the banner pole, one standing up on the rim of the chariot, and of course the chariot of fire. They're fun to convert.
Well, hardly anyone takes an all necro army. And hardly anyone takes a wraith.
You also don't see many characters mounted on winged nightmare, and even more rare is one a dragon.
Like Strewart says, themed armies can be had by the dozen. Blood Dragon with black knights and grave guard would be hardhitting, as well as a bit trickier to play.
Not taking skeletons but zombies instead is pretty unusual (for a good reason---zombies don't kill stuff).
Highly mobile armies have loads of wolves and fell bats and you don't see them often, either.
The SoC list could be made harder to play if you went with two black coaches, knights, and grave guard. That might balance it a bit more for you, as well as providing something unusual.
Thanks guys I'll get down to my hobbyshop and grab another copy of the armybook (just sent one off to Zanzibar) and plot something out.
Also, Blood Dragons and Necrachs are the most popular, and lamia the worst, but is strigoi any good?
Strigoi are an unusual choice in that, fluffily, you'd be taking lots of Ghouls and few or no Skeletons and Zombies, which would leave you with a mostly skirmisher army of T4 critters with poisonous attacks. That's pretty unusual for Vampires, I think.
Oh, and Lahmians are NOT the worst !
Thanks again for the fast replies, you guys have helped me narrow it down to 2 choices: Necromantic (master necromancer general) or Stigoi freak show (only zombies, ghouls and bats?)
Any thoughts for those in particular?
Have to disagree here... Not that zombies don't kill stuff, they sure don't lol. But neither do skeletons really. The main differences are skeletons are harder to kill with light armour, hand weapon, and shield, while zombies are easier to raise. I see magic heavy lists with all zombies.Originally Posted by David
And if you go for the SoC list, zombies are far better. Just as armoured, kill just as little, and easier to raise.
Ok, of those two choices I would go for the latter. It seems more interesting and has the hitting power of vampires. Strigoi are good for carving up rank and file troops, but not so good against other lords. The necromancer armies just seem boring to me.. Magic is fickle and not something I'd like to rely too heavily on, which you would need to. Plus you would have nothing able to kill, and would need to outmanouvre even the fastest armies out there to win.
Ok, but should I include necromancers to support my Strigoi lord, or go strait lord and thralls, with a throng of zombies? The later would limit terribly my magic phase, wich could backfire big time if I need to heal the lord.
Put a couple of Lv 2 Necromancers in hte army. That'll keep your power dice to 8 in a 2k battle wich is enough to survive.
LAHMIANS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!! *cackles and runs away*
When life gives you lemons, shut up and eat your damn lemons.
Yeah definitely. At 2k my choice would be count, thrall, necro, necro.
If you have bound items, since the count can cast you might be able to get away with only 1 necro.. Depends on how magic heavy you want it to be.
