Welcome to Librarium Online!
With all this talk about Wraiths. I believe we can master to use them, and in fact break them.
I have been thinking, That there is a possibies beyond the standart lists we have never explored with Ethernal. We need to be creative here, and go beyond the normal lists that are played. I am even going to far to say Ethernal army. Although i got to admit fielding this army, playtesting, and designing it are extremely tought. This is not meant to be a balance list, but we need to be able to beat balance lists.
And there is the Supurise, I am fielding a complete unorthdox list. Would anyone know how to play against this list? I doubt it, espically if we master it, and rarely put it out for play.
Foundation: Banshee's, Spirit Hosts, Wraiths, Necromancers. Although there are plenty of magical weapons out there, few are units. Can we use this stragety to tie up a lot armies, and win with a few other hard hitter and strageties on weaker flanks? Can we make units of ethernals taking apart units?
Army Breakdown: Ethernal with lots of magic caster. How do we win the Ground game? Hordes of Zombies or Skeletons will then be required. I think we need enought of a horde, becuase we will have extremely strong Terror & Fear casuing. I believe you need a few heavy hitters, to support a flank all by themselves. Since our chariot, and flyers are large targets, Probaly the best idea we do not use units we cannot screen.
Stragety: Ethernal to tie up majority of the army. why we take apart individual units. Ethernal problay in middle since most due move faster than our floot sloggers. Screening our combants. Need some faster heavy hitter on the sides to slide in and support our hordes. Magically heal our ethernal tieing up big fat units without magic weapons, espically Clavary. Use Ethernal to take down Characters. Horde in the Zombies and skele only, and cause our oppents to have no where to run to. Maxime, Fear and Terror.
Do we want to use all Lahmian powers here? Wouldn't that just support and create more synergy with the rest of list? Necrachs are a maybe. The other blood lines really do not seem ideal here.
Some ideas from the Wraith & Weight Thread:Thank you for all the wonderful ideas David. I agree with so many of your points. but until I can develop a Ethernal army list, Does a Thrall and Wraith become apples and oranges. Otherwise they have to fullfill the same roles, becuase they are our heavy hitters.Originally Posted by DavidVC04
I am open to suggestions and advise, I am hoping to make this list work. I will think about this some more and post an army list.

Well, I'm thinking ou should take the Wraiths as a kind of substitute for vampires. So, necromancers teamed with wraiths and no vampires.
Anything. I'm thinking hordes of Zombies and Skeletons, though.
Spirit Hosts, first and foremost.
After them, go for whatever but since it's going to be a slow moving army I would say take Grave Guards. Unless you take Dire Wolves or Wraiths on steeds, then Black Knights would be fine and possibly Fell Bats.
Banshees, Banshees, and a few more Banshees.
Necromancers turning the horde into... more of a horde.
Wraiths moving up in units of Grave Guards, Black Knights, or Skeletons.
Banshees coming into combat allong with other units, but as they advance howling and tormenting different units, especially the ones you're zombies or skeletons are about to assault.

Wait I am a bit confused are we making an alternative army list here or a regular army maxed out on etheral troop?

Valid point, but I believe a Count with spell level upgrade would be sufficent, with necormancers support. Master Necromancers does not have the close combat albities required to allow my army to win. Necromancers also tend to be left behind, I need a general to lead foward, and allow me to march.Originally Posted by archonofdeath
I cannot jusstify grave guard for this type of list. It doesn't have good snygery with the rest of the list. I am still working on the list and ideas. Right now it is coming to a Count Wraith, Necromancers, with hordes of zombies with indetermined number of additional ethernal units.
BTW: Wraith if on nightmare, the nightmare becomes fearless also. This has just increased a wraith usefulness two fold.
Nightmares are undead, so are automatically fearless, same with every single unit in the armybook bar Ghouls and bat swarms. Nightmares and rider also count as a single entity as the nightmare is not a multi wound mount.BTW: Wraith if on nightmare, the nightmare becomes fearless also. Unless you meant ethereal, in which case ,yes it is useful to have a ethereal great weaponed model on an ethereally barded (or non-barded) mount, oh what fun a whole unit would be.
With the 0-1 limit on spirit hosts and a restricted number of rare slots (Banshee's), in a 2000 point game its only 500 points of ethereal models and most people tend to max out on said units anyway because they're just so good, so the only real addition would be wraiths and while they're not as crap as many believe I still think that necromancers, wights and thralls are a better option. Removing the 0-1 limit on spirithosts or increasing the unit size would make way for a more ethereal army but alas not a likely event, basically if your looking for an ethereal army look at most (fluffy) Lahmian armies and swap some necros for some wraiths and there you have it.

Your are correct on your assumpution. I meant Ethernal instead of Fear. Which is the only reason why i am even considering this idea. Wraith are not terrible, But the only problem is the thier crappy Close Combat abilities. I have given them so many different opitions on equipment but i just cannot figure out a solution for them yet.Originally Posted by The vampire Lestat
Lahmanian is what I have been building it on. They fit the ethernal syngery extremely well.
Tell you the turth Banshee are rarely played. They are quite good, but for those slot people perfer black coach, or rather take other items instead.
The problem in play testing is that I keep coming up with Minor Victories. Thew postive note is that I am not losing. The problem with that is I cannot enter a tourment and hope to take first without massacres. Casual play this idea seems great, but tourment play, Look like I will have to throw it out the window.
