Welcome to Librarium Online!
In an effort to raise my own awareness and others, and to start a conversation, I wanted to discuss the Lahmian bloodline, its advantages, disadvantages, and to know how people use them. I know many people on the boards do, though I myself haven't yet (except for trying Neferata once, but more on that later).
Here are the advantages I have seen:
-1 to leadership tests
will strike first almost all the time, due to either high init, or innocence lost
quickblood is the standard price for a 5+ wd save, but allows another character to have one too
leadership abilities can prove highly effective and can ruin opposing character's days
Can prove to be character killers with their bloodline powers
No magic penalties like blooddragons, and can take magic items unlike strigoi
Cannot take mundane weapons or armor
Seemingly weaker in combat than all other bloodlines except necrarch (though i could be wrong)
Cannot take some magic weapons(I don't normally take them, but others may care)
LD powers can be unreliable and may not be worth the points.
Can suffer against units immune to psych, or with coldblooded or other rules.
If I forgot something, forgive me and post it. My question is, what role do you use them for?
The others have their niches:
-Blood dragons are pure combat, IMO if they aren't in combat atleast for a little while they are wasted points
-Strigoi are great for combat, and you want them getting their hands wet, but they can also cast effectively
-Necrarch are powerful casters but you want them to shy away from combat most of the time (though it can depend on your opponent)
-Von Carsteins have no boost to any area, but can be great in combat or casting, and use tactics
Where do the lahmians fit in?
Are you selective when you use them, depending on what you are facing?
Does your army list change to meet a certain style of play, or is it interchangeable with other bloodlines?
My only experience was with Neferata around a week ago. Ofcourse she was a beast in combat and casting, but she damn well better be for 700+ points. It seemed to me that the only reason her ld abilities would work was because there were 4 tests to make, and -2 to the test. Lots of the time my opponent made his first two tests, and thats all you could normally afford with a normal countess. Not to mention Neferata was a huge sink, I don't consider playing her as playing lahmians in general. Thanks for replies, and I hope it makes me want to try them.
Something fun a GW employee suggested to me once.
If you are using special characters then you are probably nt 2 bothered about using the army lists in teh back of the book either.
Go a lahimian on a dragon or winged knightmare and 4 banshees since they become a special choice.
Oh look, 4 screams on 1 unit with -1 LD.
Enjoy the carnage
I only used neferata in a friendly game to see what she could do, I have never used a special character before, and probably won't again, atleast for a while. The back of the book lists are alright, but I prefer the main army. Though that is a pretty cool idea, I was looking for normal tactics and ideas. Thanks for the feedback though.
Since the lists in the back of the book are not completely balanced/legal, I would imagine the only tactics worth discussing are from the main list. I interested to hear others opinions on the lamiens. They do seem a little underwhelming than the other bloodlines, but I am interested in their leadership abilities and the possibilities that they can bring.
okay i play lahmia so i might be able to answer your questions better
lahmians are beasts in combat (don't laugh i have bi@tch slapped blood dragons) the 2 essential powers are quickblood and innocense lost i forget if that is the right name but basically the strike first and the 5+ward
the strike first really hurts cus face it she is a vampire! even with - to the weapon skill she can depants most of everything in the game! and a guarenteed 5+ is better than a 3 or 2+ that can be modified, the mind powers are great against low ld armies and pointless against everything else even against low ld armies i would recommend only taking the 10 and the 20 point one they may not be as powerful but they get the job done in a fraction of the points (not to mention they are the only ones that work seiously try a couple mock games with all the powers and you'll see)
okay you want her in a unit of skeletons NOT grave guard and especially not zombies (fluff wise lahmians would never use zombies anyway cus they are ugly and smell bad) equip with the tomb blade okay she will always go first even if they charge and face it even a thrall is gonna cus damage sed damage turns to new skelies which will porb be killed in retal but heywho cares ya didn't lose any from the origin unit count and probably just one combat so they auto break
if they challenge ya still strike first (hence where the blooddragon ownage comes from) a vampire in any form is dangerous one who will always go first is outright insane ^_^
their magic abiliteis arn't hindered in any way so add a skelie summoning or two and ya got the game in a bag
another way is on a zombie dragon yes i know a lord and 2 heroes plus an insane amount of points yadda yadda SHUDDUP it works lahmian line is the only one who can pull it off effectively but you will have to spend like 600-700 plus and go all out that right every lil thing ya can think of take it! stay away from large units pick on small units and skirmishers plus the good old warmachine and mages and she'll get her points back beleive you me the same 2 powers of course and for fluff reasons use a different dragon model as no self respectin lahmian would be seen on the current vc one
lastly it is possible to have a lone lahmian and still make out alright but i wouldn't recommend it as stated they are best in units oh and don't forget the asp bow these lil buties are underestimated but they are soo awsome consider it for the dragon lord if ya go that way or a thrall if ya go the other

Thanks for the reply plague, though there are a few things, on a thrall you can't have both innocence lost and a tomb blade (too many points) but you are right, a thrall or count in combat will still do damage, but do you use them for those abilities plus they can cast, or do you build your army in a hordelike necrarch style. Also, against what armies have you found them particularly effective, I know low ld, but they often have other tricks, or just many crappy units to overwhelm you. My main opponents are chaos, lizardmen, empire, and ogres, and the only armies I would consider taking them against are ogres and empire.
I agree. They're great in a challenge. Here's the kit I like...Originally Posted by Plague_00

Innocence Lost (going first, huge!)
Quickblood (a girl's gotta have her protection these days!)
Beguile (I don't like the psych powers, but for 10 points it might work...and in a challenge, it can be huge)
Either spell familiar (my choice) or black periapt
Use IoN to keep her looking blushed, and you're golden.
Lahmians can't take weapons/armor.
They can't take mundane weapons or armor, there is no problem with magic weapons (though mages can't wear armor)
prince_diosLahmians can't take weapons/armor.
It is amazing how many people don't read that properly in the armybook, same with the appendix rules being permission only.Plague_00another way is on a zombie dragon yes i know a lord and 2 heroes plus an insane amount of points yadda yadda SHUDDUP it works lahmian line is the only one who can pull it off effectively
So true, I try to put on the cursed book, that way with the flies and cursed book all enemies are at -2 to hit, meaning even WS7 heros are striking my vampire on 6's, and it adds some more survivabilty to a sub standard (but also amazingly fun) zombie dragon.
As for lahmian vampires they are not terribly different from von Carsteins in their usage except they swap a bit of defence for speed, the psychology powers are almost a non-event except for special circumstances (and Neferata) but the Asp bow also provides an interesting magic item entry in an actual shooting phase, and can allow lahmians to snipe champions, making characters more vulnerable to a challenge.
