Welcome to Librarium Online!
One of the most important things to have in your army is the necromancer. This post is about how you would equip your necromancers. I would usually give one the power familiar and the other the staff of damnation. Sometimes I would drop the staff of damnation for the the book of arkhan and the dispel scroll.
I have yet to use the Black Periapt, but I plan to in the future. Is it worth it? Also, do you think that the Cloak of Mist and Shadows was made for the necromancer or do you think another character could use it better?
I hope I get a lot of replies to this post and we can have some debate.
If my necromancer is the general i.e. 1000pt games, I usually include him with the cloak of mist and shadows. The magic you have will protect him and he can't be hurt except in combat resolution, or by magic.
My Master Necro runs with the cloak and an obsidian amulet. In a unit of grave guard with the banner of barrows, he is quite useful.
Usually in a vampire led army I have 2 lv2 necros, one with the power familiar and one with the book of arkhan and dispel scroll and they serve me quite well.
Those are mine :ninja:

It depends. Mostly i play with 2 necromancers, 1 with book and dispel scroll, 1 with black periapt and dispel scroll. However thats the ones I use for my blood dragons.
My Necrach necromancers usually skip the dispel scroll and periapt for more dice familiar.
In 1000 pts my general is equiped with cloak of mist and shadow just in case.
I always take one with dispell scroll and Book of Arkhan, and the other will vary depend on opponents and my own list. The Staff of damnation is great, but I hate it when it runs dry the turn before I REALLY need it. Otherwise I take either two dispell scrolls if there are a lot of magic heavy opponents, or dispel scroll and black parafit. I like the BP as people aways hold one die back for the book, and I like not using it and stealing that held die to make them fear holding it back for when I acutaly need the book to work.
Yeah, I've gotten to where I always take the BoA and one scroll on one necro. As for the staff, and book for that matter, running out, I try not to use them too early. You're right, it's rotten to see them vanish before they've done anything worthwhile. The book I'll use early a lot of the time, but the staff I'll hold out on. Plus it can make for a surprise when the opponent thinks you're done with your magic phase.Originally Posted by xrix1
BoA and scroll, and then if I am doing blood dragons I use the periapt, and play a more combative list that can sacrifice magic and put the dice into dispel pool. I've never used the cloak before, I keep my necros in back, and I've never had them shot, other than lightning bolt, or overran. The cloak won't prevent that.
How often do you take a master necro over a vampire? I don't take one unless its a 3000+ pt. battle.
I've never used one, I feel I need the combat power of the vampire in order to win, plus they just survive so much better.
