I've had my coach unassembled in a box for about 2 months now, partially because it is a bit intimidating, and also I've been focusing on painting the more used parts of my army. When mocking assembly with it, I found that the "reigns" which connect the nightmares to the coach are too low to be on their backs. Is this fixed when the coach is put on a proper fitting base, because it doesn't come with one, just nightmare bases. Or does the bar to connect just need to be bent up. Has anyone else had this problem?
Instead of using the 50x100 mm base that came with it, I used a 50x150 mm base. That was the perfect size because of the linkage, or whatever you call that blasted bar, from the carriage to the horses was so long.
Once the base was done, I took an arrow from the skeleton sprue and glued it onto the base, pointing at where 100mm should be so that opponents would know the real size.
I wish I had known to use green stuff back then. I opened up my case one day (it's at the bottom where I seldom go) and found it in pieces, just as if someone had smacked their hand down on it. I was dismayed and still haven't fully repaired it.
You know, mine didn't even come with a base... but the problem wasn't the connector bar wouldn't fit in the area, its that it's too low. BTW, did you make the 50x150mm base yourself, or did you find one.
Mine didn't come with a base either.. And same problem for me. I'm solving it by bending the support thing and probably using a bit of green stuff, I've painted most of it but like you, haven't stuck it all together yet coz its a bit daunting and I've been short of time in the last few months with uni, work and forums.
Whats GF9? Is there a link you can send me too for it? I'm sorry to hear others have the same problem as me, but I'm glad I'm not the only one in the boat. Thanks for the help guys.
It's GF9.com. Go to the store section. They have laser-cut bases of all sizes, really nice. And the markers and templates are cool if you really want to geek out on the stuff.
I haven't tried their magnetic basing system but it looks nice, too.
I used a home made base which is much large then a normal base but I didn't use the steeds as I thought they looked stupid and I had major issues with the thing causing terror. I mean there is nothing scary about it. So I used a different mount making it more interresting but since the mount is metal it made the model very heavy thus needing a larger and more sturdy base. As far as the intimidation factor goes. I was intimidated by it as well but had the pressure of a upcoming tourney (past saturday) so I had to get it painted. I have to admit I am a beginner and very slow painter but it took only a very long evening to get the model painted and I am pretty happy with it.
Check it out (I have since added the braziers but they aren't in the pictures since they were missing when I got it and thus I had to order them from GW)
