Some dude @ my local GW hobby center came up to me after I got finished talking to a couple of my friends about my new Chaos War Mammoth that I made out of a Mamuk and is going to be completely legit during the nemesis crown campaign, and started bragging to me how he was going to kill my mammoth by hitting it with hand of dust. Is there anyway to stop hand of dust, like some artefact that you guys can think of or some techinique that will prevent it aside from just dispelling it (which I could do, I can take enough scrolls) I can;t let him beat me so easily after he was so damn smug w/ me. ARRRRGH!!! *turns around and smashes nearest table with his bare hand and takes his helmet of khorne and breaks the head of one of his shamans clear open with it*, sorry A'shkar. NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED HELP!

Take a ward save, it's the only way to stop a Hand of Dust without dispelling it.

do multiple ward saves stack like armour saves?
Nope. Armour save, regen (save), ward save, death. Any re-rolls apply of course and you cannot re-roll a re-roll. I agree your best bet is to find a way of working a ward save onto the mammoth.
What is the most humane way to kill a lobster, in the fridge or with Michael Bolton music?
I shouldn't worry to much about it. Hand of dust is probably the weakest of the Necromancers spells.
The effect is powerful but the practical consideration of getting it cast and getting into a position where it can take effect makes it of little real concern.
Your opponent only has one attack, you presumably will have a ward save. I wouldn't worry about it too much. The guy has probably just read that it is killing blow that effects any sized creature and still thinks it is awsome without thinking about how he is going to use it.

It is very unlikely that he does get the spell when rolling for it and if he does just swarm the person with it with 1 wound models so he can't really use it. And if the model is on its own I'm sure a charge from a war mammoth would kill it with ease.
I'm Useless :D
I wouldn't knock the hand of dust, as I have killed Greater deamons, giants, and Shaggoths with it. However I use a Strigoi lord with infinate hatred to ensure that the attack hits, and you also have to actualy get the spell on the character you want to use it with, then you have to cast it and get into combat with it still up against whatever you want to use it against. It is really powerful, but if he ever gets it to work in more then 1/10th of his games (and thats not even against a worthy target nessisarily) he has much better luck then me. Frankly, if he has it on his Vampire, just save dice to dispell it when he is getting near something that it would be effective against, or avoid that vampire with your mamoth. Its not like he doesn't roll for spells before the game.
Frankly, it's not really a tactic by itself, but something handy to use if you happen to roll it, and the situation presents it'self.
kk, thanks everyone. I'm just trying to cover all of my bases, and since anything below str. 4 cant even hurt the mammoth, I wanted to make sure I was taking care of the more high strength and random things as well. I think Eye of Tzeentch (3+ ward save against any and all missles, which includes magic and mundane, extending to the model bearing it and his mount) is probably my best bet so far. I dont think I can put multiple charachters on the mammoth at one time, but if I can, I'd jusut mount a Wizard (I thinik its lore of heavens) that gives 3+ (or 4+) ward save. Kinda low chances to roll it, but but otherwise it's still more missiles and other stuff.
That ward save you mention won't help, as it's only against missles, and Hand of Dust is not a missle, it gives an ability to the character's close combat attack.

Dude, you are bringing a warmammoth to a game in a khorne army and you are worried about 1 spell. It seems to me you are trying to fond a sure win thing and that's the warmammoth but now someone has put a dent in your confidence that you are ensured of victory. It's a game. There has to be a chance you can lose or don't even bother playing.
The chances of hand of dust doing anything are slim at best. The person first needs to get it. Which is no guarantee. Then they have to get the spell off which is not that easy against a khorne player. Just let everything through and focus your dispelling on the one spell. And then he still has a one in 3 chance that he misses with his one attack if it's a vampire (unless he has a Strigio then the chance is much better). If it's on a necro he probably needs a 4 to hit so only has a 50% chance.
On top of that you will know who gets the spell when the games begins and just avoid that model with the warmammoth.
You need to not whine with a army with a warmammoth. (sorry for being harse)
And the VC player definately needs to can it. I mean I get sick of people always coming up with things that can beat something. If it couldn't be beaten it shouldn't be in the game!!!! Just like all these people saying you can just frenzy bait a blood thrister. Sure you can but only if your opponent is a total blundering idiot. You don't frenzy bait a flying large target. It picks it's target.
Ok, I'll get off my soap box.
