This is pretty far from your typical "Which army?" thread; but it does have a bit of that vein to it; so I apologize in advance for that >.<
Anyway - I'll be ordering my Chaos army tomorrow, but as I ever am, I'm looking beyond to see "What's next?"
Well, I kinda know what I want - a cat-person themed army; preferably with a tribal jungle or woodland theme.
The problem I'm having is figuring out which army suits them best to use as a base list for the counts-as.
Possibilities as I currently see them:
Pros - VERY jungle-themed army to begin with, I can sport quite a few javelin-equipped skirmishers with little armor, a Carnosaur would be a great mount for a Chieftain or Chieftess. Blessed Spawnings for leaders make for some interesting types of tribal warpaint.
Cons - Cats are supposed to be quick, and lizardmen have a rather poor initiative. Also, I've heard that having a lot of Skink Skirmishers is looked down upon. Being new to the game and still figuring stuff out, I don't want to jump into something inherently cheesy by accident when I'm just looking for a good theme.
Pros - High initiative, wood-land theme, light armors. Higher Move speed suits feline people well.
Cons - Too organized; most Wood Elf core units rank up, and I just can't imagine a relatively primitive group of people fighting in ranked formation. (In terms of fighting style, I imagine these people fighting in a fantasized Native American Plains Indian style); also Forest Spirits mostly don't suit what I'm after, which knocks out a huge chunk of the list.
Beasts of Chaos
Pros - Raiders formation seems like a pretty reasonable "in-between" as far as getting a sort of loose-tribal melee unit going. Obviously already savagely themed, Ambushes are especially a nice concept.
Cons - No shooting that I can see. Dogs of War might be able to rectify this some; but even then...
Those are the big ones I'm looking at at present. Obviously I have a hugely long time to decide - it'll be a good while before I ever need to put another army together; but I'd like to get my ideas rolling around in my head now.
So what do you all think?
While you will lack shooting I think beasts are you best bet. Feral, quick and maneuverble.
Also a fun army to play, one of those armies I see myself play one day.
""What's the matter? Don't ya like clowns? Don't we make ya laugh?" - Captain Spaulding.
Yah, I have a similar thread up on Warseer, and so far Beasts are definitely FAR and away the favorite <@.@>
I can definitely see it working, that's for sure. There's just so many possible ways I could make it work that its hard to decide <x.x>; But I guess that's why I asked in the first place <,<;
I have agree on the beastmen, but for the record the Wood Elves have very few ranked units. Also you should look at the SoC Skaven Eshin list. You can make an all skirmisher army who is very fast, has a few powerful characters, not mention that if your army is entirely skirmishers you are able to strike at night. I cannot go into the details, but its a pretty cool rule 8Y
