Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have been sitting in my dark laboratory with lightning flashing outside, cackling to myself, and coming up with 1000pts of an engineers army for the up coming SoC (my local GW is playing 1000pt games for it, along with the usual participation games etc). So here it is, in all of it's explosive glory (though it will undoubtedly undergo changes between now and the SoC).
Engineer Dennis: brace of pistols, gromril, rune of stone, rune of luck.
He is the entire character of the army, after a knock to the head he has become somewhat obsessed with bangs (the louder the better). When Desmond the Dwarf lord feels it is uneccessary for his pressence on the battle field he sends Dennis to command the forces, which often spawns a hideous array of new fangled weaponry rather than Desmond's personal favorite weapon: the axe (you've never seen an axe explode in some one's face have you?).
20 thunderers: full command, shields, brace of pistols.
these are dennis's underlings. They will line up in a twenty long row to minimise casualties from cannons bolt throwers etc and maximise shots coming from them (unless they're on a hill, in which case they'll probably go in two ranks so they don't take up the entire battle field). then when combat arises if I think they can kill all of the enemies with a stand and shoot reaction they'll just stay in their line, if not they'll form up into 4 ranks of 5 so that they can fight properly.
10 warriors: great weapons.
this is the small retinue Desmond sends to make sure dennis isn't doing anything "out of the ordinary", however because Dennis is in charge of them he tends to send them on little "errands" for him (perhaps he was a skaven in a past life) such as checking out if there're any fanatics in units of goblins and flank charging if the thunderers aren't doing too well.
Cannon: rune of forging
Cannon: rune of forging, rune of burning
these will generally shoot at the same target so that it suffers and then if neccessary the thunderers will shoot at the same unit too (Dennis may be unhinged, but he's not stupid).
This little beauty is one of dennis' favorites because it makes a huge amount of noise and/or destruction.
Bolt thrower: rune of penatrating
You will notice that this in fact goes WHOOSH, or possibly FUTT rather than BANG, however you'll also notice that it has a rune of penatrating on it. This is to represent the fact that it is a prototype gunpowder powered bolt thrower (using a heavily converted GorkaMorka spear gun for it) and thus it makes the correct noise. the bolt thrower is only really there because I had points spare and felt the urge to have a strength 7 bolt thrower (come here little chariot...).
If you're bored enough to count, you'll notice that this is in fact 1004pts, however if this is too distressing to the people of GW I will just take the rune of stone off Dennis to make it 999pts.
So what do you think? Insane or Inspired? and will it win anything or will it just be mashed horribly (I figure I could have problems with horde armies, but I'll work out what to do when I come accross that problem)?
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... HAHAHAHAHA......MWAHA....ehem, moving swiftly on
first of all, put the army, points, etc. in the subject just to make it easier to read.
anyway, the list seems a bit risky to me, your engineer wont be able to be every where at once, so youre gunna take a few misfires, if a cannon or a organ gun blows up your going to have problems. 2nd, if your enemy makes it to you, your screwed. with only 2 units, only one of which can fight, youll be raped in combat. 20 thunderers probaly wont stop a unit from charging them just with standing and shooting, and what if your opponent charges you with two units? you will lose combat. after that, your war machines will soon follow. I dont think this army will do too well against most armies, but it might do very well against small elite armies like elves. I dont want to sound overly critical but i dont think its gunna work out. My suggestion would be to drop some gunners and a war machine to beef up your existing warriors and add another unit. good luck!
