After the Cult of Slaanesh list was scathingly (spelling?) critised by some of the veterans of LO, I've decided against them.
Disillusioned, I took the current WD and started analysing each SoC list in a vain attempt to find a suitable army. Lo and behold! The Eshin list stared out at me and I remembered that I had a few Eshin models tucked away somewhere.
So that's my life story, I'll get on to the more important stuff.
I am posting this primarily to ask for advice from Slai on what I should buy and use in a Border Patrol. So Slai, if you're out there could you give me some help?
If anyone else has anything to say then please do so.
Hmm id get 2 boxes of NRunners first off, and convert yourself an Assassin (you could buy the assassin model instead, of course), convert yourself a Sorceror (just take en eshin model and give him a staff of some sort, with a rune perhaps?) . Anther must is making a Triad (use NRunners for this as well, if you want) by just making sure you can tell the difference between them and NRunners and the Assassin. You could just do this with the colour scheme, but Id just give them claws on both hands (looks awesome) and the heads that are clothed around the snout.
Then you should have 35 NRunners left. Thats 3x10 Nightrunners and a 5 strong Gutter Runner unit, if youd like that.
Other things I think you should buy is Rat Swarms and Jezzails. You do need Poisoned Wind Globadiers as well, IMO, but instead of buying them, convert them from NRunners. Just get some beads or something for the globes =) . I did, and they look great.
You could convert the Jezzail as well, making them camouflaged bamboo-pipe-blowers or whatever you think fits the theme =) .
About a 500 pt list... Take a Chieftain with the Weeping Blade, HArmour, and Shield for 96 pts, a triad with smoke bombs at 240 pts, and two units of 9 NRunners with 2 hand weapons and throwing stars at 81 pts each. Thats 498 pts.
Just make sure your NRunners dont get charged. Use the triads to take out light cav, warmachines, small enemy infantry units (of 14 or less, ca) . Throw stars at the enemy units until its so small you can charge it with your NRunners and Triad and take it down. Use the chieftain to take out enemy characters.
Hope i helped O_o
Thanks for that. I'll be buying the stuff soon and I'll get back to you with how I get on.
In this list, does the chieftain essentially act as a single model unit?
Also, what is the Eshin symbol (do they have one?)?
I tried this list today, but with 10+8 NRunners instead of 9+9 (you have to have an infantry unit of 10+ models in Border Patrol. my bad).
Lost to brets, but I think if i played abit better i could have won. I ran the chieftain on his own, yes. His Ld isnt superior to any of the units, and he really doesnt do much with a unit. Perhaps stick him in the 8 strong NRunner unit if you are worried about them panicing due to shooting/magic (since he will make them 9 strong, thus having to suffer 3 casualties instead of 2 to force a panic test).
But he did allright on his own. Not sure if he was needed tough. Perhaps try to give him Desolate Blade instead, or something else, as characters are easily killed by the triad, and so he isnt needed to do that. Try to make him a unit fighter (IE the magic sword that gives you +2 attacks) .
I was kind of pondering on what you just said. The triad was specifically designed to kill characters so I was wondering why you needed the 45pt weeping blade. I Think I'll do a bit of juggling and come up with a revised list.
I never spotted the error either. My mistake for not seeing it.
I'm not sure what to use for the chieftain. Originally I wanted to use the Stormvermin champion but he looks too, well, stormy...
I use the stormvermin standard bearer. But I have gim a greatweapon instead of the banner. Looks very decent.
I would, like I said, give him the "+2 attacks"-sword, and get him to fight units like archers, small support units (fast cav, skirmishers), and perhaps go for the heroes if you get the chance (5 attacks with S4 is rather nice, I must say) .
I'm facing HE with silver helms, so I think the Gouger would be of more use here.
I think it all depends on what kind of army you are playing. Like you said, have a plan for every character.
This only works if you know what you're up against however...
