My two latest posts in the "what army to get" threads of both 40k and fantasy subsections here on LO got me thinking. I've been always too keen on the good guys, those fighting for the right thing. That's why I chose Wood Elves and Tau Empire and I don't regret this. But my latest choices seem to reflect the shift of my taste - with Chaos Space Marines in the armies I'm considering in 40k and Warriors of Chaos in fantasy.
I thought about exactly when this shift has happened, and came to the conclusion that maybe the seeds were sown with Daemons of Chaos, of which I bought the book and was completely overtaken by the fluff. As some of you may recall, I successfully resisted the Chaos back then and chose the Wood Elves. I then wrote a post on the Daemons forum, to which UndeadBonzi made a remark that keeps ringing these days:
You can never shrug off Chaos, once you've been tainted you're marked for life. Tzeentch has simply let you think you've shruged off the call of evil, you'll be back.
I didn't think this very likely but yet here I am, with my eyes set on the Warriors of Chaos and Chaos Space Marines, throwing the good guys out the window (Eldar, SM, LIzzies, the list goes on). The Chaos stuff is simply so well made up and complex that every other army fades in comparison (with Wood Elves being a notable exception, mind you ).
Now this is already getting long, so for the patient of you, I have a question. Do you feel the the same about Chaos? To me, fluff is "everimportant". Why did you pick Chaos?

chaos is the inevitable winner in all wars, without fail the Lord of Change will take the day-- Tzeentch is the one true god.
thats why I like chaos -- though I do have an old demons/mortals/beastmen army
I love chaos. Fluffwise I think they're the best by far better than space marines which I find ... sort of bland (reminds me too heavily of robert heinlien). I've read a few H.P. Lovecraft stories and they fit very well of chaos. I do suffer from the feeling that "games workshop is just ripping off all this stuff" without realising that some bits GW use they rejuvenate and put their own twist on it giving it originality.
Chaos fits quite well with my playing style too mainly: smash, smash. The near complete lack of shooting in fantasy chaos makes me feel like i'm missing out on the game at times but the way chaos can steamroll over an army makes me feel warm inside.
The ability to play different types of army while staying within the chaos boudaries I find fun too i.e. magic army - tzeentch, tough army - nurgle, fast army - slannesh, uber combat - khorne.
Anyone find it funny that Cities of Death show the two worst combat armies in the game ... in combat!
