If you had no idea what you were faceing, which common lore would you take?
Moved to FB Armies, as a Votewar is a specific type of tournament.
Anyways, I like the multi-purpose nature of the Lore of Heavens, myself. A lot of the spells are able to enhance my army or damage the enemy somehow.
That said, it does tend to depend on what kind of list I'm running. A gunline, for example, can benefit from the Lore of Life.
I went for beasts as that's what I normally use. Then again, I do like the angry bears ...

I have gone life, but as a Bret we are limited in what we can take anyway. However life has some really interesting spells and pretty low casting values. Not too many damaging spells but on the whole I find spells that disrupt the enemy more advantageous than doing the actual damage. Things like Mistress of the Marsh is a brilliant first spell. Also the best heal in the game, useful for helping to keep characters alive, and deny victory points at the end. Keep your big expensive lord at 1 wound til the last turn, heal, and all of a sudden no victory points. None of the spells are devastating, but I think all of them are useful. Others I might consider is death, beasts(love low casting) Heavens for its long ranges and mix of stuff. each has its place, depends on how you play your own army as well.
Lore of Heavens has always been my favourite and the best for many others too... even after the latest edition it is still very strong (last edition that lore was just broken ). In fact all of the lores are tailored for specific uses, but Heavens just has the edge... Life is very good too.
"Well... that hurt" - Vampire Jon Skellan (Mannfred's right hand man) after being beaten up, falling down an underground waterfall and being impaled by a stalactite.
I voted Death since that's what works best with my particular army (Daemons of Chaos, the list is somewhere on this site), since with all the spells I have some good damage spells and two psychology based spells which plays to Daemons advantages. I think Beasts is also an excellent choice mainly because Beast Cowers can be extremely useful, that one spell is reason enough to take the lore plus the rest of the lore isn't really too shabby.
BEN DIESEL FTW!!!
I voted beasts because i have my own little bear model to replace the wizard.
I sneakily think heavens is the most powerfull one though, it allways reminds me of high elves and how a Comet decimated my dwarven gunline once
