I hope i'm putting this up in the right section.
Anyway I am finally a working man, which means my hobby money has exponentially increased. Being a casual WH40K player, who has finished his Black Legion, I have begun collecting Grey Knights.
However the local store mostly has Fantasy players and I do like the fluff of that setting too (although to a lesser degree... heresy!)
Now I have a few questions before I make an investment in january or february:
- Is it true a new rulebook is coming out next year? If so when most likely? And is it worth delaying the purchase of the expensive rulebook over it?
- The factions i'd pick come out of the following trio:
-> Chaos Warriors (preferably fully armored - Tzeentch or Khorne: Dark Knights rock!)
-> Dark Elves (possibly Malus Darkblade force as I'm a fan of his novels)
-> Bretonnia (I'm a Historian by education with a specialisation in the Black Prince so a somewhat 'themed' force would be fun. I'm also a fan of the Arthurian sagas)
Are these three likely to get a new army book anytime soon?
I believe I read DE and CW's got theirs not that long ago.
Also if a new rulebook pops out I presume there will be a new starter box too? How worthwhile getting it is it?
Thanks to all those who give their opinion!
Some good questions, first up, the brets are the most likely to get a new book soon but I find them the more enjoyable to play against due to their real life similarity and unique style. It's probably worth waiting for the new rulebook, but seeing as we don't know what will be in the box I can't advise on that. Don't let all this stop you getting a start on a fantasy army though.
Thanks for the response!
How worthwhile are the battleforces of each side?
Would it be a good idea to purchase 2x the BF and add an HQ as a starting army? Or would that be useless?
How much pts is in each battleforce on average?
The bret one is rather peasant heavy, the WoC has few warriors and things like marauders that you'll only want 1 unit of. DE has a lot of corsairs which work best in smaller units. 40 will be too many. I personally can advise on brets better than the other 2 as my fiancee has them, but 2 battleforces ain't great.
Hmmm sounds like it may be best to buy the things 'seperately'.
