so I've been looking for a 2nd army that will help me have a better chance at beating my friends Dark Elves and also to have an army with a different style of gameplay to keep everything interesting.
the 4 armies Ive been looking at are:
Warriors of Chaos
there are a couple of factors that affect my choices on what to play, I would also like to tell you what I think of each.
*A quick note I have the codex for each except the new lizardmen one*
I like the idea of forest spirits and such, but as far as I know Woodelves do not win very often, and something else thats negative is that u are dependent on having forest terrain which my friend and I arent even in possession of. and the fluff doesnt necessarrily interest me in the least other than the forest coming alive and killing things
now the thing that mainly affects my decision also is the fact that a while back I traded a small force of mine for:
56 Glade guard
8 glade riders
Wood elf hero on foot
1 Warhawk rider
I dont exactly know what should I do.
so should I just build them and paint them up as a display army which I could play with occasionally? or should I just try to trade them off?[color=#804000]
Alright next army
I love the fluff on these guys and I also like the fact that I dont have to paint as many units. another thing I like is the Gut magic and the idea of charging in and ripping things apart with giant bloodthirsty ogres
some negatives are that alot of the models seems kinda plain and boring to me, plus some of the models are ugly looking, It may just be the way Gw has them painted but...idk. Im also worried that their style of play may get boring and that they dont have much potential for victory as most armies.
currently I have:
2 man eaters
1 greasus gold tooth (mostly for painting, plus hes cool as hell!!)
and a tyrant.
I was also planning on gettting a battallion of ogres but I'm not sure.
should I just trade what I have or start a force of these guys?
alright here is just another force I was interested in. I dont have the codex for this as stated above but I have read through a digital copy of the codex and theyre pretty cool.
I also made a trade for a OOP force of these guys. here is what I have along with pics
1x Skink Priest
1x Skink Champion
1x Skink Drummer
2x Chameleon Skinks
41x Saurus -
16x Temple Guard
what should I do with these guys? should I purchase the new codex and just play with them maybe build the force a bit more? maybe give them to my 15 year old brother who is interested in playing for the 1st time?
or should I trade them off?
and last but not least
Warriors of Chaos
I like these guys for the elite troops, the versatility and their overall badassness.
but somethings I find are the choices are kind of overwhelming. and plus I played chaos in 40k and I think the stuff is a little to similar. also I alot of the models aren't....I guess u could say characterful to me.
I also think these may be the best to deal with those pesky Dark elves and produce alot more interesting raging battles with my buddy.
right now I have;
5 chaos knights
and 12 chaos warriors
and I also have a battalion on order from my local gaming store which I could cancel if need be.
Phew finally I got all of that written down. all these thoughts have been flying and colliding in my head like like a bunch of heated gas particles.
so please help me out guys, comment on what I have said. maybe provide and argument on some of statements.and above all HELP ME WITH THESE QUESTION!!!!!
after answering would u please post ur reasons why.
thank you all for taking the time to read this huge post, and I hope to hear from u guys soon.
I would have to say... Go Lizards!!! you obviously have a nice starter army already, get yourself a slann, a couple of terradons and salamanders, and you are set for destruction! We.... I mean they..... are a very competetive army and can go toe to toe with all the other cheesy armies out there.
Join the Jungle and bring the pain!!!
awimboweh awimboweh In the jungle, the mIghty jungle... the lizards look like a great present for your brother. Go for the wood elves! theyre great for practicing tactical skills.
ps. I hear them winning tourneys allmost as much as lizardmen
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
Obviously by the information you gave with the wood elves, it's apparent you want an an army that can be competitive against all the other armies. With that I would immediately dismiss ogres as there options are minimal compared to the other armies. Between WE and LM I would go LM. I believe the repetitive nature of the WE is a huge factor for most players. Playstyle the LM and WoC have many options. They can both have brutal magic, though the new 2250 Slann list can be very lacking due to high point cost. The same goes with Chaos Lords for WoC. WoC can smash Daemons and VC if played right. Dark Elves will be a little bit tougher depending on how you do the army comp. WoC or LM (more sway for the WoC though).
You need to read a topic in the wood elf forum called 'wood elf hate' - If you're not interested in them don't do them.
Ogres interest you and the models are big enough that you can have a decent sized army and convert up models you don't like without having to do it for forty models in one unit. You need more care to be successful with Ogres, not good if you're wanting an army you can instantly be good with as adjustments will have to be made in playstyle and forethought.
You're interested in Lizardmen, you have models, they tend to be more defensive which can be good against Dark Elves.
Warriors find Dark Elves to be a brief speed bump depending on how cruel you form your list.
What is your primary army anyway?
Fantasy: Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
LotR: Misty Mountains and Rohan
OP>>>Man I hope you get some good advice, I have seen this posted all over LOL.
The good news is your down to four; I on the other hand am shortlisted to seven army choices.
First...Play what you really want to collect and paint. I am really looking at the models and the army tactics second. It does me no good to collect 300 Skaven, if I do not want to assemble and paint the models.
Second, before you go and buy another complete army to just beat your friend...What are you playing now?
What could you change about your existing army?
If your in the market for a second army...that is cool too.
Reading this, for you I would say Lizardmen.
WOW.. where are you making all these trades? You seem like your saving loads of cash.
What army did u choose in the end>?
I play both lizardmen and wood elves, and I win with my wood elves much more often. I don't play warriors of chaos, but between lizardmen and wood elves it is easier to win with wood elves.
