Welcome to Librarium Online!
With 8th Ed Firmly here, I wanted to ask how people felt about Meteors of Destruction
Basic Concept:- as many Attaks as possible while remaining LEGAL!
Reason for taking should be able Even with new combat rules to take small - medium units of light foes with moderate ease (could be a problem with the new horde rule)
Heres a concept Meteor so you can see what i mean.
Vampire Lord:- Lv3, Zombie Dragon.
Vamp powers:- Red Fury, Walking Death, Infiinate Hatred.
Magic Items:- Sword fo Bloodshed, The Flayed Hauberk, Talisman of protection.
Ok the Above gives 7A @ S5 and I7 with re-rolls to hit for every unsaved wound cuased he gets another attack and so on and so forth hi mount adds 5A @S6 I2
as he is a Lv3 wizzard he gets to roll up 3 spells form lore of vampires increasing the cnahce of getting Vanhel's Danse macarbe tto be cast on the mount giving it ASF and re-rolls he alos has +1CR thanks to walking death. he has a 2+and 6++ while the mount only has a 5+
the concept here is to have him charge thanks to being a fly he should get into a flank
which gives +1cr and +1for charge and +1 for his power so before blows are stuck he has +3 most of his target will have between +3/4 with command and ranks he should very easliy cuase enough wounds to win combat on his own the only problem will be SCR as he wont negate ranks any more.
another problem will be Large target and Warmachines nolonger guessing to hit you and the fact they hit the whole model.
so the question stands are meteor's worth taking now with the info provided above and if you think its still worth having one what would you take.
If you wish to post a meteor here please use the formate
Lord, Base Upgrades (include mount and anything mundane here)
Special powers (vampire powers etc)
Magic Items (allt he shiney goodness)
How many attacks and at what S and I they are
Many thanks in advance
They're not worth it. The biggest problem that they have is that the enemy is Steadfast. You get 7 attacks, you aren't going to kill a whole rank of guys, and 1 row of 5 guys in base-base with your monster is enough for them to still count as being Steadfast. They'll pin you in place, then a mage will either buff you, or they'll send in another regiment for a Flank Charge, giving +2 combat resolution and providing you with a lot more bodies to hack through, if they don't send in a character of their own. Wounds will stack up, combat resolution will stack up, you'll eventually break and flee, and either be run down, or never rally.
I still believe in keeping up huge numbers of attacks, in fact, I field a regiment of 18 infantry which boasts 31 S4 Poisoned attacks to the front, and a regiment of 12 Knights who put out 26 S5 attacks to the front. If these regiments get stuck in against an enemy without high toughness or a good save, and I'll usually punch right through them. Hit something with armor or toughness, and I'm stuck for a while, but I can still usually get through.
The best part though, is that these regiments also have bodies and ranks behind them, along with banners either magical or mundane, to help keep them in the fight. Characters don't have that luxury.
yeah thats basicly what i thought for competative games especiallyas almost every one will be fielding hordes now but for friendly fun games they might still be a giggle
thanks Capt for your input.
