Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hiya, just started playing WhF again after a long break. (haven´t really played since 3rd addition).
I started collecting warriors of chaos, and having a blast with them so far. Joined my first tournament last week, and almost won. (not really, but beeing number 80/102 players aint dead last right? )
I do have a few questions for some of you vets out there, as I have looked high and low for the information without getting any closer to an answer.
The warriors of chaos bases are slightly larger than other "human" models of the same file and rank, is it legal to use smaller bases to fit more models into a smaller area like other races? or does anyone know the actual reason why even marauders uses these "large" bases as they are basicly the same as any empire/brettonian men at arm. (one point higher ws and I).
Steed of slaanesh!
Absolutely love the model, but again.. it raises question regarding the base.
The base is twice the size of a cavelry base (monster sized base). This obviously causes some problems with the "look out sir" rule as the base is larger than other cavelry.
The reason i bring up this model for questioning is, that I saw the "old and hideous" Steed of slaanesh model the other day(from earlier versions of the game, not sure which), which was the same size as other cavelry models.
Furthermore, i noticed the "Daemons of chaos" have a unit of "Seekers of Slaanesh" who rides Steed of slaanesh aswell, these also uses the normal cavelry base, so why does the warriors of chaos version of this model use this twice as large base? (the steeds are exactly the same gamewise/stat-wise)
and.. is it legal to convert a chaos charector to ride one of the seeker's steeds to narrow down the base to the size of a normal caverly unit?
also, they are listed as WB (war beasts) in the rule book, but that doesnt say anything about the base size :/
Hope I dont sound like a whiney child here, but simply trying to clarify some of the wierd questions I keep having about my army.
Thanks in advance

The bases have there rules in the book to clarify each models unit type. Also the larger bases for infantry are for a reason so you won't be able to officially use smaller bases which in theory allow you to field more powerful and technically larger models into a smaller area which would in turn give you more advantage in movement, combat etc. Besides the larger bases help you against template weapons

War beasts tend to be Cavalry bases - as they are defined as cavalry when ridden. However the general case is that the model ought to be mounted o whatever base it was supplied with...
As for warriors of Chaos infantry - you will see the same thing on Orcs (+1 T and -1 I compared to humans) and many other larger creatures such as Gors as well. This is entirely to do with game fluff - Warriors tend to fight a little bit less as serried ranks and more as individuals - compare Roman Legions / Macedonian phalanxes vs their main opponents. However in this day of template weapons - it helps a lot!

The Lord on mount s a different story:
GW had this same issue with this model. They changed the rule that all steeds of slaanesh are supposed to ride a cavalry base, so this guy didnt fit their plans.
They fixed that by changing the character model's name. it's now a lord riding a Daemonic mount, no longer a steed of Slaanesh. Have a look at this guy in the army book or rulebook or online, you'l find its current name. It even fits the (armybook's) flufftext of the Daemonic mount very wel
So it's on a monsterbase because a Daemonic mount is on a monsterbase. If you use it as a Slaanesh mount (some do), then it should be placed on a cavalry base (needs some converting as it barely fits)

No fooling around with base sizes no.
The marauders actually used to be on smaller bases a couple of editions back, but as they used a regular chaos warrior as unit champion back then it was a real pain when it came to base size.
I think they changed it to be able to fit characters in there better. If they still had small bases we would never be able to let characters count as part of the ranks, and they would always have to stand to the side of the unit (see page 98 of the BRB ).
As it can be very important where your BSB/general stands in a unit because of their ranged bonuses this is probably for the best - even though Marauder hordes are pretty unwieldy ^^
25mm is more or less the new standard for human sized models. With each new codex release, more and more units seem to use them, aside from the armies that are at least slightly smaller in the fluff (elves, skaven, dwarves, goblins, etc).
Empire is still mostly 20mm, but any unit that's human sized and supposed to be able to hit hard in close combat have generally been given 25mm bases.
I didn't know that they reclassified the steed of slaanesh lord model into a daemon mount. Thanks for the heads up.

thanks for all the replies so far, been really helpful =)
especially the clarification on the demonic mount rather than steed of slaanesh part, made alot more sence
