Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ive had 2 epic failures in WHFB in the few games ive played.
1: Yesterday i played Skaven vs Goblins, my Hellpit Abomination charged his Archanoc spider (Yes the staff members let us play with it! ) So, i gave his spider 2 wounds, he had 6 left, in return the spider gave my Abomination 3 wounds. So after the titans had clashed his goblin crew slayed my abomination when he rolled 6's on each one of the goblins attacks :/
2: Back when i played Ogre Kingdoms i played against an Orc army. My unit of 4 Ironguts and a Tyrant charged his boar chariot, so i got very many attacks on him but failed to hit him on all the dices! As a retaliation the boar chariot attacked my Tyrant and killed (yes killed!) him on the first try. I failed an Ld test and he ran my unit of 4 ironguts down with his chariot -,-
So, whats your worst whfb gaming experience? Do tell, i like hearing of other peoples games which ended disastrously!
It doesn't fit you say?
My Orcs & Goblins vs Empire... it all boiled down to the very last turn with the final combat being played out... I don't remember the exact circumstances, but I do remember the maths from it...
...he basically had a 1/1296 (~0.08%) chance of saving a draw from a defeat....
...and he did!
i was in a multiplayer game- it was dwarfs vs beastmen and O&G we charged the enemy lines- but after combat res was worked out the WHOLE army turned and run away leaving the stunties looking smug...
In the horror that was sixth ed, on turn one of a 1500 point game a Pegasus-mounted Wood Elf Hero charged the unit my General (an Empire Captain) was sat in, they failed their Fear tests, then the Hero challenged my Captain and basically destroyed him. This caused almost every unit in my force to fail their panic tests thus routing seven out of nine units off the board before I had even started my turn one. The bloody setup took longer! Never again, I can tell you.
On the other hand I've routed armies in the past in under two turns myself just by charging the enemy's hardest unit with the Chaos nutjob Egrimm Van Horstmann on his Dragon, smashing the unit and causing everyone else to fail either their Panic or Terror tests. It worked both ways.
Give a man a gun and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he can rob the world.
My 'worst' experience in a game of Fantasy was when the chap I was playing started to cry and throw his models around when he realised he was going to loose........
As for gaming experiences. I played a 1500pt game with my Orcs against a Chaos Troll Army where I was wiped out to the last Orc (the 30 Goblins survived obviously) and I didn't kill anything......... well alright, maybe 2 Trolls but that was about it.....
Not as spectacular as my mate at a Tournament in Nottingham. His Level 4 Vampire Lord getting an Ogre Scrap Launcher snipe him in the Ogres first turn. Crumble tests from turn 1 aren't very good for Morale.
However he did play the guy again recently. He went first, caused a panic test on the Ogre Tyrants unit (with BS which they promptly failed and legged it off the board. Which meant the Ogre player lost because they were playing Blood and Glory.....
Write army list..........set up models........ pack models away. Good game.
It wasn't my personal worst experiance but i was there laughing when i thappened.
Skaven vs Empire in 8'th. Battle line and all that good stuff. 2000pts and my friend(skaven player gets both plague and wither....wana guess what happened?
Wither on the 50 halbediers. Plauge them and about 2/3 dies. Panic test....they fail. of course they fail their leadership test and run off the board. Detachments run for it and his whole battery behind him (2 great cannons, a mortar and 10 handgunners) see it as a bad sign and run.
In the end...ten knights and one really scared light mage is sitting on the table wondering what the **** just happened. This was all done on the skaven players...first magic turn if i remember correctly. Ya they started over pretty quickly ^^
aaaand the same thing happened again, just two turns later xD
My worst experience? Having to live in an area where the only other fantasy players are frothing 'Ard Boyz fanboys in 8th ed... My VC's simply can't play in this environment since I don't have ghouls and I'm not using a copy-paste internet list.
The regular bulls*%! that passes for 'fun' around here;
- lizzies with becalming cogitation + loremaster + the extra dice disciplines. add in the mandetory horde block of templeguard and masses of skirmishing skinks.
power scroll'd 'uber spell + cupped hands is about the dirtiest crap of all time!
- skaven slave-spam. on top of the typical crap of a furnace horde + a-bomb & cannon among all the shooty weapon teams. (mix of wind mortars & warpfire since the templates ignore the randomisation.)
- dark elf pendent 'o win armies. either a near-unkillable Lv4 w/shadow magic or else on a pegasus lord who slams into your biggest threat and holds it there all dan game with the crown of command.
- chaos warriors w/30 chosen of tzeentch are obscene! backed by 2 warshrines, a Lv4 tzeentch sorc, BSB & basic tzeentch warriors. of corse, the army includes all the typical upgrades such as the puppet and ward save boosters, EotG's on the chosen & anti-killing blow armour on the Lv4.
or else there's a duel hellcannons + puppet which aims purely to get the 'every enemy wizard miscasts'.
- popemobile + duel stank empire gunlines supported by a crown of command general, BSB and as many warrior priests as possible.
- dwarfs in general!!! okay, I don't hate dwarfs as much, (aside from them reminding me how short I am), but it's no fun when i face 12 dispel dice every turn...
their war machine lines are also quite 'urty.
My VC's are all but shelved indefinately for obvious reasons... The only games I play now are between a couple of friends who also would like see a number of the local douchbags burn in a car fire for their heresies! (ie: the bas%!*#s who got most everyone else onto the 'ard boyz glory train)
On a more light hearted side of things, in a recent game with my VC's, my 3 magic phases went something along the lines of;
turn 1: snake-eyes for the dice pool. no channeling. rolled boxcars for the coach's effects.
turn 2: snake-eyes again for the pool. no channeling. rolled boxcars again for the coach...
turn 3: (game was over by this point!) rolled 3 for power dice! coach took two of 'em!>.<
never using a coach again!!!
