Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm new in these parts of LO, I usually stick to 40k but with the release of Tomb Kings coming closer (one of the few armies of interest I have in Warhammer) I was thinking of starting up an army. However, since most of my money will be tied up in expanding my 40k armies, I was thinking of just starting a small army for Warhammer to get my feet wet. Is this at all possible? Are battles actually enjoyable at smaller point games or is Warhammer meant for larger scale battles? I don't mind smaller games in 40k, I just did not know if there was a large difference between the two.
My max size I was thinking would be about 1000. Start off with 500 and build my way up slowly. Since there seems to be a lack of Warhammer players around my area I did not want to invest to much, but do not want to invest at all (in the models at least, I'll most likely pick up codexes I love reading the fluff) if smaller point games are not enjoyable. Hope to hear back and thanks for the help guys!
coming from someone playing with the current TK rules, YES. playing anything less than 2k with the current TK rules is pretty futile
Understandable, from my readings on here and other places TK were very underpowered, but since they are having a new release soon (I believe so at least am i correct?) let's take that out of the equation. From your experience with other armies that are up to par, say dwarfs or skaven are smaller points games possible/enjoyable? Thanks though for the quick reply
Most of the games I play are in the 500-1000 point range, and I have a blast. I do enjoy larger games as there is a lot more strategy, but it really just depends on time and who I am playing against.
1000-3000 is my range anything less is just plain unfair for my Tomb Kings. Anything more takes too long.
Oooh I love small games you can do great scenarios too such as a patrol being ambushed etc. In 6th edition they even had special rules to cover smaller games but these have now been incorporated. Might I maybe even suggest the island of blood box to get you going

Thanks for the responses guys, its making me feel a bit more comfortable to trying out WFB. I was looking for about 750 to 1000 points to start off with so I may just try it out.
Muse, I have thought about island of blood box as Skaven do look interesting, I think I will have to take some more time on the gameworkshop site and read up on all the races again as I'm having a tough time deciding between all of them!
