Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys *hope i'm posting this in the right place*.
Here's the issue:
My girlfriend has Wood Elves, mainly archers, shooty stuff with a little bit of magic and a unit of Witch Elves (War dancers or what ever they are called).
I am looking for an army to compliment hers so we can do doubles games.
So here's the thing, she's doing a tribal / celtic theme, basing them in Albion.
I originally planned to play Lizardmen along side her, lots of saurus (so I order the battalion, a couple boxes of saurus and temple guard / slann, looking back ordering so much ir probably what made me ''meh'' lol).
Anyways, for the life of me I couldn't think of what to do with my Lizardmen (and personally I felt a bit limited conversion wise).
So basically i'm going to get rid of my lizardmen (unless she wants the army) and i'm looking for a different army.
I am extremely fickle right now and ''meh'' seems the norm response when looking at armies/models.
I'd like an army that is mainly melee, get in your face and smash stuff.. kind of thing, I don't mind learning to do magic properly! Though I would prefer not having to rely on magic (yes yes 8th Ed is magic heavy and all but meh).
The main thing though is that they have to fit with the whole tribal / celtic / wood elfy look thing.. not sure if i'm making any sense at all but yeah..
So far, I have been considering (with her helping) Orcs and Goblins : Savage Orc army, painted tribal and .. something along the lines of living so close to the wood elves being affected by their magic rather then the usual, or being grown within their vicinty... I don't know, to be honest we're not great with the Warhammer lore, only what's in the army books, so far.
Or Warriors or Chaos, problem here is mainly i'm not overly keen on the models. Idea was instead of using 'marks of chaos' to use 'marks of nature', that kind of thing.
Anyways, I look forward to any advice / help / suggestions you guys can come up with.
Thanks in advance!

what about painting your lizard men more forest colors like dark greens and browns. fluff wise it could be lost tribe of lizard men. That live in forest that will come aid the wood elves when their new home the forest is in danger.
Yeah originally it was to be done, as you said, in greens browns, which rapidly fell over to oranges and yellows (autumn/fall-esque).
Ended up with me finding a troll I liked and went back to Blues/ice blues.
The main issues with Lizardmen though, in my personal experience, I know alot of people out there really like them, I just can't bring myself to like the models too much, i'm not entirely sure why, it's just something niggling at me!
That and the fact that I do enjoy painting / converting alot, and i'm not too into the Lizardmen for that.
( they are some cool pictures you added there )
Though I will admit they do have some pretty funky models, i'm just looking at getting rid of them in favour of another army, or at least shelving them for now.
I forgot to add, another option was Beastmen.

well I've heard that beastmen are really good at magic and they all about close combat and living the woods.
and what about the dwarfs? gunline type army? it would add those nice long range war machines that wood elves lack and IMO they have a Celtic look already, just paint them with green cloaks and red hair. The war machines you could base with bushes and trees to make them look hidden for ambush which wood elves do a lot.
How about 2 wood elves?
or fluffwise, Brettonians are somewhat close to wood elves, if anyone would help woodies, its those bastards in shining armour.
If you go for savage orcs, you could add alot of forest goblin stuff, converted infantry and spider riders, giant spider and Arachnarokk.
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
Do Beastmen rely on magic, or are can they be competitive without it? My knowledge of Beastmen is very little, I havn't really ever looked into their army!
I agree the Dwarves do look Celtic-ish already, though ''fluff wise'' I don't see it being a good duo, aswell as dwarves being shooty, witht he cannons/guns as you said.
As for the Brets the army I had before LM was actually Brets (wanted a change for 8th).
I never thought of the forest goblins / spiders actually ! But atm a Savage Orc army is looking like the best contender.
Would it fit together though? I mean Orcs just want to bash and smash.. well anything and everything, as well as chop trees down and what not.
2 Wood Elves I was thinking about today, I even glanced through her book, but me wnating to support her by just having melee units, I don't think that's such a great idea, with Elves having such low toughness / strength and not very good armour saves?
Correct me if I am wrong here though.
I was looking at big units of Eternal guard but they seem pale in comparison to pretty much every other armies ''horde'' units.

Well fluff wise I would avoid beastmen as woodies and beastmen are mortal enemies. Same is kinda true for orcs / goblins though maybe you could make a savage human army using savage orc rules? I would avoid double woodies as most of the armies choices are worthless so you both would just be fielding the same things really. Brets make the most sense since if you are just going to field another army with the base style of their book they fit.
- You must set fire to water or you will be extinguished.
Go ogre's. You can make some fluff about them helping the woodies by mistake. Then the woodies was so grateful they hired the ogres on for assistance. Ogres are good mercs.
Plus they tend to take on the clothing of the region they are working in, so do them up however you like.
You could do WoC and just stick to marauders, they seem like they'd go well with woodies, and you can get an awful lot of them for your points... And get that woodie wild hunt cav unit and run it using chaos knight rules... Field a chaos giant (they make messes of monsters, and Sigmar knows those are plentiful in the current metagame) in the form of one of those woodie giant trees...
TBH, I don't know why she doesn't run blocks of treekin... Those are, point for point, the best monstrous infantry in the game, and would completely solve her melee woes!

Why not consider the High Elves? I'm sure you could fluffily jusitfy helping their kin in their fight against a common enemy. I think the two would complement each other well, and the two armies would look nice on the table together.
