Hi guys I am playing High Elves at the moment and I am looking to start a new army after I have been to thrown of skulls which is coming up soon.
So I have decided to start a new army in 7th I played high elves and skaven and now in 8th I am playing high elves but I want a change from the norm so I was woundering what army's do you guys recommend and why do they appeal to you.
I am looking for an army that is different but is effective and easy to use.
Thank you for taking time to read this post and I look forward to reading your comments.
Not sure about a change from the norm, but my fav few armies and reasons I like them:
Dwarfs: Hard as nails, solid and I like the war machines, also they are simple and effective
Chaos: Every one loves these, again simple and effective really
Empire: Again like the war machines and the variety with Knights archers Swordsmen etc
Dark Elves: Only because I read the Malus Darkblade books and think they are cool, probably to similar to HE for you
Orcs: Just because they are mental
Effective and Unique?
Lizardmen - one of the most underrepresented armies in the game, and currently one of the most powerful. Also, there are no rumors of them getting a new book any time soon. Take all the magic ability of High Elves, drop out the fragility of your units, and you have Lizardmen. They're also elite, so you're going to need fewer models than your High Elves, and definitely fewer than your Skaven. They're also a monster in CC, which is a bit different from the Skaven shooting focus or the High Elves reliance on magic and combined tactics to take down foes.
Warriors - see Lizardmen, but this is a rather popular army right now. Also, less magic, more CC, and even fewer models.
Ogres - Take Warriors, make them bigger and give them 3 wounds each. Then drop the model count by 66%, and add in some shooting for spice. Decrease the magic even further. This is another popular army right now, but they're in decline since the "new book fever" has worn off.
The three armies above are easy to use in the sense that they just want to get in close and rip the enemy apart in combat. Lizardmen can hang back on the defensive if the enemy can't outclass their magic with shooting or magic of their own. Ogres don't have to charge in as quickly since they've got some nice shooting units, but Warriors are certainly a point-and-click type army.
Thanks guys that is really helpful and I look forward to reading what other people think as well.
I will let you know what I decide after thrown of skulls as I will be buying the book of the army I decided to go with there.
