With me it was purely for the models and painting. I was happy to just keep on painting until I discovered how much fun the game was to play as well. Now I enjoy the strategy as much as the hobby.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

For me it's mostly the game. I like being creative but not THAT much with warhammer models as other things. I still like the hobby though. Only the GW models could be a lot better and cheaper. But lets not nag about this again.
It's the strategy and the fun of playing the varied and complicated game with friends and a beer or at a tourney. It's also nice to see yourself and your friends progressing in painting/modelling and tactics/strategy.
asquabbling they squandered and gambled
till dawn did freeze their drunken dice
I like to paint models, convert models, and play the game!!
I love it all  .
(yes,yes except the prices)
I also had lots of free time after school( and I am at Bilingual Gymnasium<-really high schooltype<-most hours of school)

Initially it was the gaming, but lately I have been getting more into the painting side and converting side of the hobby... Theres nothing more fun that sitting down around table displaying nicely painted models and scenery, with a cold drink, and battling for several hours...
...And I shall be there, waiting, at the gates of hell, you shall not escape my wrath!

Well when I was 12 I walked into a Gamesworkshop store (almost by accident) and ever since I have been into it. I like the tactical elements, and the creative side, but mostly I just like having a decent game with friends.
I much prefer fantasy to 40k, as in fantasy the tactics really pay off instead of a brilliant move being foiled by about 1000 points of firepower plus nothing like ranks to protect units from lone leaders
A Promise to a dead man means nothing.
A friend of mine named Chad got me into Warhammer. My fiance' and I play Vampire: The Masquerade with him and his wife, as well as a couple of other people. One night out vamping, I noticed Chad's miniatures and was reminded of my own forays into painting the little models when I was in middle school. I was a big D&D nut and played a whole hell of a lot of Bard's Tale.
He gave me an overshot of the game, and I ended up playing his Goblin army against his Empire army in a small match. I was hooked. I read up a little on the armies and went with Vampires because of the Masquerade connection. Might as well streamline my fantasy worlds, I thought.
I still can't paint for crap and my playing sucks, but it's fun to learn. And I was snowed out of a game tonight, dammit!
The first thing that got me started was playing Dark Omen, or the demo of it. Then I noticed a GW store while shopping, made the connection and bought some old skeletons.
I switched to 40k mainly for a long time, but recently I've been drawn back to fantasy by the cool models and the rules system. It is a lot more tactical than 40k too and IMO an army arrayed is more impressive than in 40k, I don't mind the square blocks since I love Total War.
i play cause the fluff draws me, and i like the tactical aspect.
Take my words with a grain of salt, i am not the tactical genius i think i am!
